Where we came from pic

Some time back I found this cup in a box of miscellaneous dishes from my grandparents home. It was the cup my grandpa drank his coffee from every morning. It's been 12 years since he used it, but I think of him each morning when I drink my coffee. I spent a lot of time with grandma and grandpa as a kid when my mom was in college and my dad worked long hours. I remember grandma and grandpa getting up at 530 every morning and drinking there coffee in the living room and watching the sun rise through the picture window before going out to do chores. Grandpa always ate skippy peanut butter on toast while he drank his coffee.

That is a good looking cup. I like the color. But
I prefer cups with a full length handle rather then
hooking one finger in it. I gotta go now and brew
some fresh coffee.

I have a cup that reminds me of my Great Grandmother. Until I started school I would go next door to grandma's house and have tea and cookies with her. Its just a little thing maybe a half cup but it was mine with grandma's. My mom is doing the same with my daughters. Some of the best memories there.

Wonder if the inside of the cup looks as good as the outside, my hunch is there's some stain. He must have had steady hands not to break it with years of use.

Some memories we keep for a lifetime of our past years. When Dad was farming my my grandmothers lived on our farm. Each one had their seperate house to live in. My Mother would have coffee with her mom. I can remember as a little guy, if the coffee was too hot, Grandmother would pour some coffee in a saucer to cool it, and drink it that way with sugar cubes. This must have been a N. Dekota Sweedish thing, as I have never seen this done since. I would try and sneek a couple sugar cubes. stan

I used to have skippy on toast every morning as a kid and once in awhile as an adult. I had OJ with it though. SWOMBO won't let me have it any more though.

was done in the south also. its because it was percolated in a stove top coffee pot which would be at a much higher temperature than modern day drip coffee pots. the saucer was the fastest way to cool the first cup, the second cup was drank from the cup.

I asked my grandmother to give me my granfather"s old shaving mug, but unfortunately she had already given in to another grandson. She felt so bad (since I was his absolute favorite grandkid) that she insisted on giving me her grandfather"s "mustache coffee cup". It must have a little age on it by now, since I am closing in on 69!

My Mom and Dad came from SC. I still have her coffee drip pot from the 40's. Red and black porcelain. Hardly a scratch on it. And they did drink coffee. Remember moustache cups and percolators that sat on stove filled with A&P coffee freshly ground from the store. Most of our cups came from dime store Neisners or Kresge. Dave

I have my grandfathers post hole digger the twist type. Still use it on the farm after 70 years of service.

I have a bowl that my grandmother always used for banana pudding at family gatherings. Last year my wife and I tried to replicate her pudding in that bowl. Wish grandma could have been there.

I have my great-grandfather's one-row mule-drawn planter and his steel-wheeled wheel barrow. On the other side of the family I have my grandmother's coo-coo clock that my uncle brought back from Germany in the early 60's. Used to have my grandad's fishing rod but it came up missing several years ago. I sure miss those old folks.
