Stinky and her First Buck

SIL has been watching a buck for some time, 4+2, but hasn't had a shot at him. Yesterday was a Youth Hunt, so he took Jessica, aka 'Stinky', out to a stand, for the first time. She started tugging at dad's jacket after a while. "There's one". Scotty held up the gun for her, and she sighted and pulled the trigger. Down goes her first deer! We went out to the Farm Bureau banquet last night, and when we returned around 10, the phone was ringing. We heard all about it. She is tickled pink. I'm wondering what the subject will be in school tomorrow.....By the way, she's FIVE YEARS OLD!!!!!!

Awesome and Congratulations Stinky! Youth hunt in MO was last week and another is scheduled for 12/29-12/30. Our regular rifle season started yesterday. My nephew got a buck last night. Very awesome to see kids involved with the great outdoors!

When the have a "youth hunt" there, it is really a YOUTH hunt! Unfortunately, this will make a lasting impression on the girl, and she's going to be a hunting fanatic for the rest of her life. (Suppose it could be worse.)

I have been laughing about this for an hour. How come no deer blood on the forehaed? LOL
I sent this to my daughter with two boys 6 and 8 and told her to send them up to SD for a hunt. They play soccer. She is in Atlanta. What are the odds?

Glad to see another generation being introduced to guns and hunting. My daughter is 9 (10 just bfore Christmas) and asked for a gun for Christmas this year when told there was only going to be one 'big ticket' item. I wound up buying her a Rossi (made by Tarus so I discovered) Matched Set, Youth model that has interchangable .22LR and .410 shotgun barrels for it. Looking at their sight there looks like there are even more barrels available for it, in a variety of calibers, as she get older and able to handle them.

In looking for them over the past few weeks I doscovered no one I had talked to had them in stock, the BIG wholesalers didn't have them in stock, and as such they weren't readily available at any of the shops around here. So when I found one about 30 miles from us I went ahead and got it for her today.

She went with me to buy it and was really eager to shoot it just as soon as we got home. She even invited a few of her friends over to watch and shoot it too. So we got home and, of course, I had to make a few test shots myself, with each barrel, before letting her shoot it. Other than the .22 being off a bit high and to the left (the sights are adjustable), and the .410 kicking like a mule, mainly due to the light weight of the gun, it's a dream to shoot. With a recoil pad for the stock to make up at least part of the reach for a normal sized adult, it would make a great little travel gun to disassembl and stow in a pack for hiking, or just in the trunk in the soft case provided.

I used to hunt alot growing up and then some as an adult until work and family took nearly all of my time, and the 'expansion of civilization' took up all of my old hunting grounds. In the past few years I've found some new areas I can get permission to hunt and am hoping before too long to have time to do so. I can't wait to get my little girl into the woods with me to get her first small game, and maybe even a deer if she gets lucky.
