Gleaner K separator clutch

I am having difficulty trying to adjust the separator clutch with the my model K. The clutch does not slip, but the lever no longer snaps over center and will ride up on its own so that the separator clutch will not stay engaged. Is this problem corrected by simply adjusting the outer ring on the clutch or do I need to look at some adjustment in the linkage? Is it just trial and error? I know the book says one notch at a time, but I have gone nearly a full half turn with the adjusting ring and haven't seen any improvement yet.

Other than the adjusting ring in the clutch assembly, the only other adjustment would be in the linkage between the clutch and the operator. The linkage typically doesn't require adjustment, but there's so much of it, possibly something is bent, worn, broken, or out of place.
You need to have a second set of hands, eyes, and ears so one can operate it, and one can check it out.

Plowboy,

Yes you need to adjust the linkage.
You want the linkage to "snap" over center. That locks the clutch up tight. If you run the clutch loose like you have it, you will wear the clutch out.
You could have went the wrong way as the other fellow said. BTDT

yes. I double checked myself with the book as well. When going counterclockwise didn't seem to have any effect I tapped it back to the original position to see if I could see any difference, but it still acts about the same.
