What a mess!! Still could have been a lot worse, so glad you are ok. When did you get power back? We have friends in Ship Bottom, NJ who may get back to their house this week, no idea how much damage there.

We got it back sometime this afternoon,In seaside nj,they are taking people in busses to see their houses, they have a couple of hrs to grab pictures etc, then get back on the bus and over the bridge

Before I started sawing them all up, I would get a backhoe and dig a big hole and pull them back upright and put the dirt back over the roots. I would think that they would live.

Larry@Stines,
Amazing to see deciduous trees uprooted by wind. The pine trees almost look like you could dig around them and use a tractor to pull them upright again.

Larry, bet your glad to see no damage to your home. Looks like all thats required is to cut up trees (sallow root ) and stack limbs and limbed branches along the curb. County can use their chipper, make chips out of the trees and use the chips for landscaping areas. The storm was just a giant nusance compaired to other sites and other storms and no significant loss of human life. Keep smiling . LOU.

I did think about it,but the roots are real shallow, and I dont have a tractor here in nj so I just will get rid of them so I dont have to worry about them coming down again

Bonfire wood. In York County, we like sit around a bonfire, drink a cold one and listen to the Raven's game (or Orioles) Doesn't get any better. The cherry tree will make good firewood for the wood stove. But you should keep those vines cut back. Pulls them down every time.

OK The AAA remark was new computer running windows 8 but anyway glad you are back up and going. Also glad you did not have any more damage than you had. That is bad enough but could have had structure damage. Glad you are ok.

Larry, on the 3rd pic down, what kind of a tree is it with that color core? A pine or deciduous? Looks like good wood turning projects...I'm sure that thought is far far away. Sorry for the life change of pace..

Wow larry, the wind must have been incredible, those trees tell a story !

That pine you showed by itself, a leaner, I have something to share with you about it.

In '79 myself and my father planted a bunch of trees around the house, which mind you was just completed. Somewhere in '95 during the winter, we had a bunch of snow then a massive thaw and rain, one of the pines blew over, part of the rootball sticking up, just like the one in your photo. Trying to recall now, I think I may have reset it, and it happened again not all that long after in '96. My father called a great old friend whom was a favorite of mine he was one of those guys you just enjoyed, work or what have you, he brought a backhoe on his low boy, never took it off, reset that tree, made some ruts in the lawn and left. I tilled the ruts, replanted and staked off that tree. I can still see exactly where the ruts are because the grass is different, and that tree stands strong as ever, given the winds and weather up on this hill. I cannot recall how long the stake and tiedown has been off it either, it stands on its own for years. Who is to say it could not happen again, but she does have a little lean in the middle but grew straight from there and boy does it shed some pine cones, provides privacy and shade where my best dog lies in peace. The man who came with the backhoe that day passed away later that year, he was in his early-mid 50's way too young had remarried 12 years before, bunch of kids, but everytime I look at that tree and those old ruts I replanted it reminds me of him, he was one of the nicest people you could have as a friend.
