I posted earlier about my water heater that seemed to build up gas before the burner
actually ignited, and then when it did ignite it seemed like a small explosion.
Turns out those symptoms were exactly what it was doing, and the cause was a weak pilot.
Gas had to build up and get down to the too short pilot flame to ignite the burner,
even though the flame was high enough to heat the thermal couple and keep the valve on.
Gas company couldn't clean it/clear it either, they had to replace the pilot orifice.
So, $7.00 in parts and $135.00 for the man who knew how to fix it and I'm back in business.
I'm sure his company kept most of that money.
Just figured I'd share what I learned. It's cheaper per person that way!
Still a lot less than new, and cheap peace of mind considering everything that's in that shop.
