OT Winter Cover Crop

I am looking for some input on what kind of cover crop I should plant on about an acre of land that has been about half sorghum cane and hickory king white corn for the last couple of years. Looking for something to plant now and then turn under this winter. Does anyone have any suggestions? I understand I probably need to get it planted pretty quick. I am located in middle tennessee. Thanks in advance for the replies!

do you have a avg frost date? winter(cereal)rye is
what is used here in iowa this late. But most other
cover crops need 45-60 days to hard freeze.

I use barley for a cover crop on my garden. I paid $12.00 for 100lbs. I had planted rye that I bought in 2010 when I couldn't find barley, but it never sprouted. It was ok in 2010 and 2011. Hal

I am in northern middle tennessee just north of crossville. I live just off the edge of the plateau. It has frosted up on the plateau (about 9 miles away) a few times already so we might have another week or maybe 2 before we get much of a frost down in the valley. Looks like barely or rye would be my best choice. Do they live through the frost and die from a hard freeze?
