Gas line anti freeze ???????

I think I have water in the gas on my Polaris Ranger. It is 1 year old & at least it runs like it has water in the gas. I really need this machine & my question is can I put to much gas line anti freeze in it. I really need to fix this problem like ASAP & will I hurt anything if I put 2 or 3 of those little bottles in it. The tank is nearly full & it holds 9 gal & no where on the bottle does it say how much I can add. Thanks Gerald

If it's full I'd just put in a bottle... When did it start running rough? Did you make any changes or "fix" anything recent? New spark plug is quick and cheap...

If you are running Ethanol added fuel, There is no need to add dry gas. Sample the fuel. dramatic water will caue dramatic isues. Jim

Had this problem on a tractor at the farm. Get some stabil and use it. The fuel that we are forced to buy nowadays really breaks down fast. Stabil will help and also clean the carb.

How did water get into a one year old machine?

What do you mean "runs like it has water in the gas"? In my experience, if you get enough water in your fuel to cause a problem, an engine won't run at all.

If there's water in a fuel tank, you can usually see it in the bottom of the tank and in the fuel filter. If it's a carbureted engine you can drain water out of the carb bowl.

It's difficult to add enough gas line antifreeze to remove a significant amount of water, the problem being that if there's a lot of water in the tank the alcohol just mixes with the water and remains separated from the fuel.

You're looking for a quick fix, but you're not going to find one.

Not so sure about ethanol/gasolene eliminating a water problem.A few times I've had water in fuel to the point that a shaken up fuel sample was nearly as cloudy as skim milk. For 9 gal.of gas I'd add one bottle of isopropal dry gas.

I am looking at two bottles of "HEET", yellow bottle which is Methyl Alcohol (Methanol) and "Iso-HEET", red bottle which is Isopropyl Alcohol. The Iso-HEET is recommended for all engines including 2-cycle and diesel.

Both versions will treat 20 gallons of fuel. Adding additional amounts will simply cause to carbureted gasoline engines to run lean however alcohol will reduce the cetane rating of diesel fuel which can be more serious.

Neither of these products remove water from the fuel! The alcohol simply mixes with any free water which may be present within the fuel system thereby preventing it from freezing. Hence the name, gasoline anti-freeze. This free non-frozen water is then removed from the system in one of two ways, 1) it may make it's way into the engine and be purged or 2) it may be reabsorbed into the fuel when fresh fuel is added to the tank.

In the event you are using blended gasoline (E-10) adding additional alcohol is not required. Any free water which may be present will contain alcohol and will not freeze.

If your Polaris is not running due to water in the fuel you could have 1) frozen water in the fuel preventing flow to the engine or 2) a fuel line/carburetor bowl filled with water. In either case I would suggest draining the carburetor, fuel line and change out any fuel filter etc., then
attempt to start the engine. If it is cold in your area and you are using non-blended gasoline (without Ethanol) you may want to add a bottle of Iso-HEET to prevent freezing. Good Luck

Ethanol is an alcohol, just like dry gas. It contains OH molecules. You don't need dry gas.

You can get an absorbent stuff on a string that will soak up the water and not the fuel. I think it's for gas and diesel tanks but can't remember the name of it. The real quick fix is to drain the fuel and put in fresh gas. Let the water settle in the old gas and you can still use most of it.
