is this a good idea or bad idea

I have an idea and was wanting some feedback.
I am wanting to build an aftermarket 3pt for a John Deere A. To power the cylinders on the 3pt has anybody ever used a lift gate pump off a truck box to power the cylinders. This way I could have live hydro. Anybody every buy a used lift gate pump at a junk yard. I would also put a delco 12v alternator on the fan shaft to keep the battery charged and may be ad some lights. Trying to make a useles tractor usefull. Will use it on a finish mower and snow blade.

thank you

Only problem I see is the speed of lifting will likely be slow. Typical lift gate pump is probably less than 4 gpm. Using smallest cylinder(s) possible to lift the load will help some. If lifting the implement only a few times during an hours operation, you probably can live with the slow lifting speed.

Husband says, "Yes, it is worth the effort". He built a 3 point to fit our unstyled 1936 B John Deere and it works great. It is built to the dimensions of a category 1 - similar to those used on a 9N Ford.

He uses a 6 foot blade on the 3 point of the B for blading our driveway and large gravel parking area.

He also built a carrier/platform for the 3 point for hauling heavy items around the yard.

Why not just find an 800 series 3 point hitch that was designed for the tractor and uses the power-trol?
If you must have live hydraulics, you could also install the pump that was made to fit between the governor and magneto/distributor.
If you had to defend yourself in court over an accident, factory made parts are a better choice.

Years ago I had a JD 1010 that I did not have the wishbone piece to lift the front cultivators. So I made a bracket and used a lift gate pump and a valve to lift the cultivators. It was not the fastest but it worked. The only trouble was that the pump used more electric than the generator would put out. I had to charge the battery at lunch to be able to cultivate all day.

For what you are doing I have seen guys install a power steering pump in the front and drive it with the generator belt. Then just plumb it through an open center valve. They work much faster and would be just about as easy to make. Big plus it that it is live all of the time.

I even saw one plumbed with the power steering pump into the factory lift to make it "live" all the time.

I have an Allis G with a 12v pallet jack pump (basically the same thing for lifting a meyers snow blade. I am 12v with alt. It works good, probably faster than a cyl the size your talking, but ok. a lot of snow plowing and the alt would not keep up though, but thats a lot of quick up and downs often with lights on.
