Bought a box of Colt 45s (longer than reg 45s) by accident. Can't return them, can't use them. Paid $32.00. Anyone interested at $30.00?

Keep them and buy yourself a .45 Colt derringer to carry in your purse/pocket. Less recoil than a .45 auto.

buy a taurus judge pistol...they shoot both 45 long colt and .410 shells......new shells at the gunshop here are under $30 a box.

nanc, i agree with the other guys, sounds like a long colt. i used to have a ruger vaquero 45 long colt single action western style 6 shooter. real nice gun , fun to shoot, but the long colts are a little spendy. they are a popular load from what i hear for the western style target shoots where the pistol and rifle must shoot the same round.

I would be, but I don't see a reasonable way to get them up to the northwoods. I'm assuming they're .45 long Colt, I have a revolver and a lever gun in that caliber.

That 45 colt was around long before the 45acp. Some people are hung up on "long colt" to avoid confusion.

It 45 colt as Nancy has on the box and I assume she needs the 45acp(1911 type pistol rather than a revolver).

(quoted from post at 09:33:43 10/09/12) let me guess, they can't be shipped?

They can be shipped. Google the regulations on shipping ammunition via the UPS. Can't be over a certain weight and has to have ORMD on the box and I think say "small arms munitions" or something of the like.

Nancy, I will take them if you can get them to me. I have a Judge that enjoys them. If you or James are going to be traveling east anytime soon I would even meet up with you.

Wish I were closer, I shoot my .45 colt all the time, but afraid with shipping to IL. more expensive than what I get them for here.

You can ship them but they're considered HAZ-MAT so you have to have the proper approved package certified for the application and a certified individual to fill out the paperwork with the proper UN numbers, NEW figures and explosive class (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 or 1.4.) and affix all labels as required by law, it'll cost more to get all of that done then the shells are worth. In the post 9-11 world I'd really be afraid to ship something like that underground/unlabelled. If you get caught you get to deal with BATF/Homeland security, they don't have any sense of humor and are kind of jerks to deal with. I used to do that kind of stuff, it's a PITA.

No travel plans. They would have to be shipped. From the above post, that"s more trouble & cost than the shells are worth.

Will check with some of our college police officers.

Otherwise, looks like I"m stuck with them.

Put them on a local add list or gun club or gun shop board.

Umm I send and receive ammunition quite frequently and have never done any of the stuff you talk about. Go to the local UPS/FedEx office and send it off. Write ORM-D on the outside of the box with a black box draw around it. Also put "small arms munitions" on it, or have the person at the office package it for you... Only other thing is you have to pay the extra fee to have an adult sign for it.

As tomNE says, get yourself a Taurus Judge(or S&W Governor)and keep the box of shells...the Judge shoots .410 and 45 colt, the Governor shoots the same + 45 ACP.
The Judge makes an excellent farm gun, it'll do a number on an intruder as well.

I reckon you got them at Wal Mart didn't 'ya? My dad bought some 22's and .410's there, then realized the SG shells wouldn't work in his shotgun and asked me to take them back for him. They said no can do and showed me right on the receipt "No Returns On Ammo". Duh. Didn't matter, I have a gun they fit so he donated them to me.
Stupid Wal Mart.

Now Nancy what kind of Texan are you with out a good revolver??? LOL. Looks like the others have it covered on the shipping. What I would do is just find a local gun smith/shop. They will not give you full trade-in but they will more than likely give you 60-70% against a box of shells that will fit your gun.

You just made a another payment on that education of life.

I consider ammo a good investment.Primers I bought at 11.00 sell for 32.00 now.22 bricks I paid 9.00 for sell 22.00 to 35.00.In any case you should know your gun better so you wont make mistakes.Good time to buy a Ruger Single action revolver.

(quoted from post at 10:40:31 10/10/12) Walmart said it was "Federal Law" they cannot exchange or refund on ammo.

Local gun shop should know someone who needs it. Buy your next box from an independent and they will help you out!!!!!

At least they do up here!

Horse puckey! Walmart says a lot of things, but there is NO FEDERAL LAW stating that. Go in, get a manager, tell him they sold you the wrong ammo and if they give you that line you ask them to show you the law, in writing. They tried that garbage with us up here telling us they had to see a pistol permit before they could sell pistol/revolver ammo. They don't do that anymore after we got through with them.
