I thought it was an old electric heater.

I googled the model number, no luck. Made by Frigidaire, 17WA541 on metal tag underneath.

It seems to come on, sure doesn't produce heat, don't know what it's supposed to do?

Tag underneath says it has a charge of dichlorodifluoromethane in it, 180 lbs low side, 230 lbs high side.

Thanks,

Anthony

Hello,
I agree with the other post.R12 was used in dehumidifiers. Those you posted are the test pressures. The open space at the bottom probably had a catch pan for the water.
Leave it on for a few hours and you'l see water dripping on the bottom.
If it has no freon left, it will then make only noise.
Guido.

Agree with Kevinj54 that it is a dehumidifier. Pan or tank went in open space in bottom to catch the water. DH

Had to look Dalek up in reply to Dachshund, 10-07-2012 13:41:16

The Daleks i/ˈdɑːlɛks/ are an extraterrestrial race of mutants from the British science fiction television series Doctor Who. Within the series narrative, Daleks are cyborgs made from their original forms, extraterrestrial Kaleds from the planet Skaro, genetically modified and integrated within a tank-like robotic mechanical shell. They were created by the scientist Davros during the final years of a thousand-year war against the Thals. The Daleks are a powerful race bent on universal conquest and domination, utterly without pity, compassion or remorse. Various storylines portray them as having had every emotion removed except hate, leaving them with a desire to purge the Universe of all non-Dalek life. Collectively they are the greatest enemies of the series' protagonist, the Time Lord known as the Doctor. They are popularly known for their catchphrase "Exterminate!" and are a well-recognised reference in British popular culture, and are listed in several major dictionaries

From the charge tag, I would think some kind of primitive cooler.

Since it is refrigerated, I assume it may be a dehumidifier.

Open it up a take some pics so we can see it.
