Heard on the radio this mornign about a local man who lost his right hand trying to unplug a chopper. Can't find the article or any details on it yet, but this was a boneheaded move from what I heard.

Hay head plugged, left it running and tried to unplug it by hand.

Will try to find some info later.

My uncle lost 4 fingers by unplugging a corn picker. Anymore I will turn the motor off on the tractor or combine to work on it.

Son in law's brother did that a few years ago, lost 2 finger and mangled 2 more pretty good.

That's another reason I'm happy we got a newer chopper. That fox would plug on a fairly regular basis in corn (espescially tall and/or downed corn) and I've had to step back more than once in those situations.

Lots of ways to get hurt if you don't use your head...

Yup. Brothertown. About 20 or so miles from my house. Same county too. The family farm is another 15 minutes away and just on the other side of the county line.

It's a shame to see that happen.
The family around the corner from me went through that repeatedly.
Every adult male in the family was missing fingers, a hand or part of an arm.
