hey guys how many soybeans per square foot equals a bushel. we have losses so bad the ground is yellow on what was already only a 20 bushel year

Don't know but I do know that the guys here were moving very slow while combining beans. The faster they tried to go the more were on the ground.

Are the beans coming off at the cycle bar? Or are the coming from the rear of the combine?
Off the cycle bar, could be dull blades or you
are going to fast or there is slippage at the
cutter bar. From the rear to fast fan, or baffle
is broke or not set correctly,sieve not set properly.Probably other thing that were not mentioned. ggp

A lot of beans are on the ground due to the pods splitting open. They are dry, only 8% moisture, or less.

North Dakota ext says 4small beans per sq foot =i bu per acre.Large beans 3 =i bu per acre. Say 30 foot head = 30 sq feet.So 90 beans found in full width = i bu loss per acre.

cut them late at night, after the dew has fallen or early in the morning before dew dries. Not a perfect solution and will not work if you have hundreds of acers to cut but it will help if the moisture is that low.

3 beans/sq ft.= 1 bushel. We've had some 'dry pop' where the pods just gave up and popped open when they got down to 7%. A little hail didn't help matters.Jim

Some people brag how fast they can go cutting beans---BULL SH%T!! We have a JD 8820-A good old-in its day-big combine.We had a 222 head on it years ago and everybody said to put a Tiger Jaw sickle on it- you can cut at 5 mph-Not true. I traded for a 925 JD platform-best thing I ever did-I cut at 3.5 mph I have the course sections and it does a GREAT job! When beans are 8% you will see shatter! GOOD LUCK!!!!
