ot army worms revisit

Gilbert in IL's wife here. Seeking info from anyone that has experienced Army worms before - found an area today where the worms were thick - can tell by damage done - they have either moved on from that area, or were eaten themselves as there is scat everywhere in the area - the picture shows two of the worms that are left there with the scat also in the picture - doesn't seem to be deer or rabbit, any idea what the army worm predator is? Also, locals are saying that the worms hit this year due to extreme dry condition, followed by wet. Today is chilly (50's, low 60's) and misting all day, seem to be fewer worms. Is this a life cycle event for them, or will they burrow in the cold. Have received mixed opinions as to spray for them since so late in the season. Noticed them 5 days ago, damage is present, but not devasting. Is this the end of their cycle, or should we spray to prevent complete loss of pasture?

Here in SE Il. they are bad. Suddenly, your yard or pasture is brown and gone. There is up to 5 worms in a horse track. I"m going to spray for them as soon as it quits raining. 3 oz of Mustang per acre. At least the pond dams and the yard around the house. Should help on the moles too. :) Vic

VicS, I Hope ya got elephant sized horses & that foot print is a square Ft. per....lol....The wife asked at work & heard Mavrik Might be the answer! I sprayed 7 on the chard & it Did kill them. We`re not as infested as bad as "rumor has it", other folks. Just wanted to let locals, & even others!!!....wiki an army worm....check yer fields!
Thanks to Glenster also!!!.....GAS

Army worms come first to a field by a moth and the moth lays some eggs in that field, then moves on to another. If this is first site of them, If conditions are right they return in about 28 days and then they will wipe out everything...I have seen them clean yards pastures and all hay meadows and I mean Army after Army of them...

We had them here in Dallas quite a few years back. I was told the only way to kill them was to spray with malathion. We didn't have any spray equipment and the malathion was real expensive.

Bought several bags of insecticide granules and used the fertilizer spreader to put it out. Killed them.

They are very bad news. They'll strip 5 acres in a day or less. Be aggressive in treating them.

Army worm predator? Malathion.... Guthion... Sevin... Any of them will make the worm curl pretty quick.
