OT. Foot Surgery was a success

Many of you wanted me to let you know how my foot surgery went. I had it last Wednesday morning at 7am and our internet was down then unitl today. I don't regret having the foot surgery, it's just a pain getting around. I had crutch therapy and I highly recommend it for any one with up coming surgery that may require them afterwards. They give you some great pointers.
Any way what I had done was two bunions removed one behind the my big toe and one behind my little toe. Plus the long bone behind my big toe was growing and angled toward my other foot. So he cut a wedge in the back end of that bone and screwed it in place then by doing that he had to shorten the long bone behind my second toe or it was pron to fracture he said since he moved the bone behind the big toe. Hope you're not to squimish about the pictures. My foot really swelled up from the extensive surgery. For three days it had a dull pain that felt like a railroad spike went thru my foot. Down to two Vicodin painpills twice a day now since Sunday.

Wife had that surgery several years ago, her sister had it many years ago. Both are fine, no recurrence of the condition. I don't understand that- why wouldn't the malformation of the bone just start over again? But it doesn't seem to.

BTW, that big toe still isn't any too beautiful- hope you didn't have your hopes set on entering it at the fair after the surgery. LOL

From what I understand bunions are hereditary. The bone misplacement won't come back since it's screwed in place now. Not sure what causes it in the first place.

Well, it ain't pretty, but I hope it gets better. You don't realize how much you depend on your feet till one starts hurtin'.

You said it Ray. I'm not suppose to put any weight on this for a month he said. Maybe two-three weeks depends on how it heals he said. I just have to keep the swelling down. Been hot all summer and had things to do outside now it's beautiful and I can't go outside... LOL that's the way it goes sometimes..

Bad news. You have no future as a foot model. Even worse news , I have the same types of foot problems. Absolutely horrible news - All my thoughts of having the reccomended surgical correction are out after you "shared" your experience and photos with us. I'll keep hobbling I guess.

Everyone I know who has had bunion surgery is so glad they did. The relief, being able to walk properly... It's just a miserable several weeks to get back up to snuff.

YUP. X-ray confirms you have more than one spike in your foot.

Hope you are back to normal quickly.

You got bit on both sides of the foot, mine was right down the middle, been since January, still sore, but the problem seems to have been solved.

I agree on the crutches, I did ok for awhile but they don't mix for long with a shoulder joint problem, I had to get off them, was getting hard to deal with. The rolling kneeler which I did not know about would have been handy, just can't stay on it too long, may cause a clot.

The use of screws is hard to comprehend, fascinating though.

I took a few photos myself, the best was with me in the recliner leg up with a cast, I heated a nice hot meal on the wood stove in front of me, near all the wood I stacked inside now being dried, mostly apple and black cherry, at least I was well fed, toasty warm and the room smelled great with that kind of wood drying, was worth it, took til 11 pm the night before surgery at 7am, did not take much to put me out, was a local too, not G.A.

Hope its a speedy recovery, worst is behind you now.
