E-Z GO Workhorse

I have an "89 E-Z Go workhorse to use here on the farm, it has saved many a step and is used everyday. My problem is the gas engine (wisconsin/robin) runs much better in reverse than in forward. It even cranks better in reverse. It has twice the power in reverse also. I"ve asked two different golf cart mechanics and they say that"s common. I tend to believe that since the engine is timed top dead center that it"s off a little one way or the other that causes it to run better in reverse. Any one have any good thoughts that might help?

I live our ST 350, we use it everyday! Yours must different from mine. I have an 2006 ST350 EZ-GO it has a Subaru/Robin 350CC motor and reverse is handled by the Rear End not the motor.
You should try the EZ-Go form at "http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-ezgo"
I have gotten a lot of help there when I had questions about my EZ-GO

Is this the engine that turns one directions for forward and the opposite direction for reverse? If it is, I think it's similar to some of the Harley-Davidson golf carts of that era. The ignition dwell AND the timing have to be set exactly to specs on these machines and the ignition system and carburetion has to be in perfect shape. Everything has to be perfect for these machines to run good in both the forward and reverse. One small area that is not calibrated will make your forward or revese to not work correctly.
Sadly, as these machines get older, the good mechanics that know exactly how to keep these machines running are almost extinct.
