Sorghum Syrup Making (Molasses) Pics!

Here are some photos from last Saturday. We grew a small patch of cane and took it to some Amish/Plain friends of ours to process it. The team of belgians in the press are ours. Hope you enjoy the photos!
I have tried to post all the pictures at once but my computer loses connection before that happens, so here goes. I will post them about 4 or 5 at a time.

So sorghum and sugar cane are the same plant? Thought
corn, maze and sorghum were all related varieties and very
similar?
I"d rather have maple syrup than molasses.

Where I'm from, people call sweet sorghum syrup (from sorghum cane) molasses. That's not what it is, but everyone calls it that... There is good syrup as well as bad.

No. They are not the same plant. Molasses is made from sugar cane. Sorghum syrup is made from sweet sorghum.
Big difference in taste.

So sorghum syrup would be similar to corn syrup?
How dark and strong would likely be related to how long it took and how large a batch of juice was boiled down?

B&d , did you ever eat Cracker Jacks? That is popcorn with sugar cane molasses. Sorghum, like from the Missouri/Arkansas Ozarks has a similar taste. But the plant is different but from the same family. There were many varieties of sorghim grown for grain and for silage.

I didn't know Cracker Jacks was made with actual molasses. Brown sugar also has molasses on the ingredient list. The horses and mules love the sorghum but it's too precious to feed them so they just get corn lol. Yes those are some nice mules. All of them are.

That's neat. My Dad tried to explain where molasses came from, when I was young, but never understood it, so thanks for the pictures, and explanation.

Somewhere on this topic somebody mentioned syrup on
biscuits?
Which type or what are biscuits. Around here moose camp
biscuits are a cup of flour, one egg, 1-4 teaspoons of sugar; a
wee dash of salt, one level teaspoon of double acting baking
soda and 1/2 cup of milk approx. drop onto a greased cookie
sheet and bake at 400f for 12-14 minutes approx. sometimes
add raisins or extra old cheese chunks to the batter. Serve hot
from oven with real butter or jam.
Never considered sweet syrup on such but occasionally
gravey .
Syrup is usually used on pancakes , french toast or
waffles. Sometimes added to hot oat or wheat porrage.
