Transport costs NW US and Southern Alberta???

Hey folks,
looks like the wind changed some and SWMBO's first choice for a stallion is available again. Transport to TX is not gonna be a problem, but the reasonable offers will not go to Canada (permit issues?).... Need to get him 200 miles south to Sweetgrass, MT..... Sellers may take him there, but what is a fair price to offer (400 miles RT) a private party??? Not that a private party is worth less, but they won't have the overhead.....

Thanks.

Ya know Dave.. have you ever been to Sweetgrass Mt and Milk River Alberta??? There isn't a shanty or wide spot in the road for an hour in either direction. If something comes up with the horse's paperwork... hey that is a depressing place for man or beast to be in limbo.
Canadian gas is atleast $5, diesel a bit more= hauling a trailer...$200-250 just for fuel, a long boring day on the road, another couple hundred?... but better have all your ducks in a row before they set out on the road to a flag stop in the praires...

Transporting livestock across the border is not fun. The permits needed are no different for a private owner than a company. I bought some feeder calves from Canada once. You notice the once part. It cost me over a $1000 more to get them transported a shorter distance than what I could have gotten them in the lower 48.

My youngest brother looked in to taking his horses on some type of Alaska trail ride a few years ago. It was going to cost him over $750 in permits and Vet. test to get two horses legally through Canada in his own trailer.

If the horse is in Canada why do you need to take it to Texas to ship it to Germany??? Can't you ship it from Canada??? It looks like you are adding two thousand miles to the trip. I know they do dairy cattle to Europe from Canada.

Just worried about what the going rates are to deliver from point A to point B (?? per mile or loaded mile?) ....... Rest is all under control, no difference than crossing individual State borders. No entrance fees or inspections required. Your cattle were different I guess because you were bringing them to stay (??). We are just passin thru...... Fees your brother was hitting was probably the cost for the health certificate and coggins tests (only requirement )...

The hassles and extra costs of shipping out of Canada isn't worth it......
Thanks anyway....
