I case you don't look.

Napa has all the brake parts for a 65 Ford 1 ton excpet shoes and rear drums.

As I said down below this is a Fleet truck not the dealer common truck and the parts are not the same been to every parts store I could find and returned every part due to be the incorrect stuff. Did find what they said where the right king pins but those cost $125 plus a side

I recall your mention of the '65 1 ton, I wonder if its the same situation as the old U-haul trucks, those were the same way, once out of the fleet, contractors and similar would buy these, but they had a lighter chassis, maybe just springs and tire/wheel size, engines were specific, did not know the brakes may have been too.

I'm a big fan of '61-'66 ford trucks, have a '64 F600, there seems to be a ton of parts out there too, but these fleet trucks must have been ordered and built special. I like the body style of those years, and the simplicity, they're just easy to work on.

Old I guess I missed the fleet part.

If it's the same axle can you adapt it to the regular parts?

Rick

To bad your so far from me. I have out back a 196? tandem axle rig. Has from what I can tell a 534ci engine in it and a twin stick transmission set up. Was a factory built dump truck but I pulled the bed off to put on my Diamond-T. This old track still has a lot of good [parts to it. I hope to some day if I get around to it that is to pull the aux trans out of it and put in in place of the carrier bearing on a Chev 3/4 ton pick up and make it a twin stick so that I can have the over drive of the aux trans.
But yep fleet truck stuff can be hard to find. I have done the take it in have it measured and then find that they have nothing to fits that size of part etc.

The reason I can get the rear wheel cylinder is that it is off a normal truck. My dad blew the rear end years ago so I put in another one so it is standard parts, all be it a 4:11 instead of the 5;73 that is had in it. Does not pull a load as well now but gets there faster LOL but still not good when you have no stop. Been down the road if take it off take it in and have it measured etc and still not the correct parts

Have you tried any of the folks that advertise brake and
suspension parts in Hemmings motor news? If it's odd
fleet stuff and the truck is in good order how about
switching the whole axle out with something newer and
sustainable? Their are a lot of newer trucks that have
been wrecked or rusted out and I would think you could
scout up enough parts to make something work. IIRC Ford
used the same frame width on their light duty stuff from
1947 until 1972, shouldn't be that hard to get suspension
and brakes that work and have parts availability. Rear
end what axle? Again you might be able to retrofit brakes
from something newer that uses the same axle? Front-
again maybe from the knuckle out can be swapped out, the
front will be harder because Ford probably made the axle.

Thats likely an 850 ?, 38,000 or 44,000 rear, same cab, but higher ceiling, 5x4 transmission and that big gas guzzler 534, they were tough trucks, also came in diesel, gas engines were starting to lose popularity, trucks were getting bigger, and you did not see many on the road in the years to follow, as I am sure you probably remember. I've run a few, one diesel, with a 318 detroit and allison automatic, bit of a dog on the road, but was a great site truck, had the quickest lifting dump body I have ever seen, well besides a mack 6 speed where you could use different gears as I believe those were somehow direct off the trans, same truck you could shift upward going backwards.

A good friends dad had a fleet of those 850's just scrapped out the last ones about 5 years ago, he had a trucking business and ran these well in the 80's, early 90's, besides his tractor trailers. Construction died off in the 70's for awhile, really hard on his business, he's still at it, semi-retired though.

One thing I remember about the cabs of those, "watch your head!" While getting out of the cab one day, on a site job working alone on a saturday, I bumped my head against the upper portion of the door while getting out, it was parked and running, next thing I knew I was lying in the grass looking up, hear that detroit running, no idea how long I was out, but gave myself a concussion according to the doc, never been knocked out before, nor since, never figured out how I did it, just knew to be careful climbing in and out of that truck.

Rich, it would probably be a blast to stop by and visit your place at the right time of year, who don't like looking at old iron ? LOL, if I did that here, 30+ tractors and what else, the town might show some interest about it, though they have relaxed, we used to have an inspector whom was a real jerk, think nothing of writing you up for an unregistered vehicle like my old 1980 K10 chevy, which I had to use to open the road many times when their plow trucks were late and I could not get in. They don't seem to bother people, unless they get a whole bunch of complaints first, before, someone would ride around looking for trouble, still you never know LOL!

Had though about going to a different brake master cylinder but the cost to do so was out of site. Just for one that fits in place of this one is over $50. It will never be on the road again but would like to be able to stop also. Only reason I even keep it is that it is hard to find a truck with a good dump bed on it with out costing and arm and leg. Just one of those things that I figure sooner or later I'll come up with a part that will work

That is one of those nice things about having a mile long drive way not one cares what I have and if they do so what to look at the stuff you either have to be trespassing or in a plane unless invited that is. I have 3 old IH trucks out here 2 of them are gas burner twin sticks and one is an old cab over job. Then that big super duty ford that I said something about and the old 1965 1 ton ford. I also have an old GMC here and an old dodge from back in the 50 or so. Have probably a good 15-20 old cars and trucks here but most no title so no scrapping them. And of course the tractors but I have 44 acres also

That's too bad about the parts. Guess I would find a newer axle out of a junk yard.

Can't scrap it out? Here all I have to do is call and they will pick it up.

Rick

Thats how I like it, off the beaten path. You probably enjoy that part more than anything else, I like the fact the local municipalities can't really see or poke around etc.

In my area, it was all rural farming, a lot of that has changed, not all, and thats because people stood up to the developers and town. The good thing is that I have land here, combined together, 98 acres or so, almost 20 is water, have 2 small creeks run on each side of my favorite field, (I'll call it a bottom field of 7 acres, 3 sides are sloped to it) and I am close to business's just the same, so often times its not time consuming to fetch things, though our hardware store is now closing, not even 1 year after TSC built across the road, they had the best bolt bins, meaning TSC does not have 7/16-14 x 1" bolts in grade 8, they do, having a larger selection. Its handy, but the road I'm on is one of the busiest 2 lane state roads around.

I have a few things in my yard, 3 pick up trucks sitting, and 2 old D7 cats, but you really can't see them, no one to really complain, never know if they would bust chops, or not, I do my best to be polite to the people whom work for the town, supervisor is co-owner with his brother of the largest dairy in this town and maybe the county, I know him well, rules are rules but they don't seem to bother with us anymore, there was a time when we were literally at war with them too, glad those days are over, thats another story LOL !!!

You wouldn't by chance be close to Buffalo NY would you?? If so maybe you could look up a friend of mine there that I am trying to find. Old Navy buddy of mine that I have not seen or heard from since 1980 when I got out

Well I can and do at times still use it as is on the farm to haul gravel on the drive way but do not like to do it much due to no brakes. It has a factory dump bed on it and the truck has less then 81,000 mile on it. Plus to scrap it I would be throwing away $$ since as is I can sell it for more then scrap price as a fixer upper since it does run and drive it just does not stop well LOL

Ok at least I had to ask just in case. When I got out of the navy I lost contact with him and have been looking pretty much ever since. I have tried a number of ways to find him but so far come up empty

Back when I was in he helped me learn to weld and I helped him learn to work on engines. He even had one of my old cars that we had repaired. We called it the funk mobile since it had a wooden front end on it due to me hitting a truck with it. It was a old Renault R10 with a rear engine. I loved that car but had to give up one of the cars I had back then

Old didn't mean scrap that one, but you said something about having stuff you can't scrap because of lack of title.

YOu can send me those D7's...LOL
