488 Haybine

I would like to be able to move the tonque on my NH 488 Haybine with the tractor hydraulics. While my manual does not show this as an option I am pretty sure I have seen them. Does anyone have a 488 Haybine with Hydraulic tonque that you could post a picture of? Thnanks. Paul

I have a 1091 Hesston and they had it as an option, I'm going to make one up some day, I fold and unfold a lot. An 8 inch cyl. is mounted to the left side of the frame and forward to the tongue. Make brackets that will stand out from the frame and tongue, have the cyl. extended all the way with the tongue folded and weld in place, to unfold, retract the cyl for the desired cut.

Here"s one I made for a Gehl CB600 field chopper- same principle.

I haven't seen them on a 488 but have seen them on other haybines of similar design. I do some custom haying and have gotten into places twice the last couple years where I was assured that there were no obstacles. Both times I have discovered large red quartz rocks and ripped the tongue out of the 488. No damage to the machine itself due to the break away tongue. I don't think the results would have been the same had I altered the tongue. That's just my opinion.

I have a hydraulic swing on my 488. I built it though. I'm going to be using it today. I'll snap a picture and post it on here later today. It sure makes for a much more user friendly machine.
