OTTAWA COUNTY, Oklahoma - A Missouri semi truck driver was killed Friday afternoon when straight-line winds caught the semi's trailer, causing the truck to flip on its side onto the cement barrier wall.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol identified the driver as Jimmy Carl King, 70, from Ash Grove, Missouri.

OHP said the semi was six miles east of Afton in Ottawa County, traveling westbound on the Will Rogers Turnpike, when the accident happened. The cab hit the cement barrier wall and flipped onto the driver's side.

Troopers said King was pinned for nearly three hours before he was freed by the Miami Fire Department, using the Jaws of Life.

King was pronounced dead on the scene from massive injuries.

That wreck caused the highway to be closed for a time on Friday afternoon.

The semi driver's death brought the number of confirmed fatalities from Friday's storm up to four. Jimmy posted under Jimmy King here, he was a good family man and will be missed by all who knew him.

I didn't know Jimmy but did read his posts here.
Anybody got a link to the funeral home?
A lot of funeral homes are online now and you can sign an E sympathy card.
Be nice to see the YTmaggers send the bereaved our regards.

My close friend Victor was driving a heavy load of wheat up to Portland when he blew out the left front tire. He did everything right and brought the truck to stop on the freeway (I 5) he call me after it happened and said I amost shft my pants getting it stopped. He was real lucky and also a very driver to get it stopped with out anyone getting hit. He said it destroyed the whole side of the front fender.

Sorry to here of your loss. I seen a truck on Good Morning America today that they said the wind blew over. It was up against the middle bearer on its side. They said the driver died at the scene. Sounds like the accident your talking about. I drove semi for 35 years and hard winds always scared the @#$% out of me thinking that may happen to me.

That is too bad. As I read your post, I thought it was a friend you knew. Even reading the name it didn't click. Then when you said Jimmy King, I got it. What a sad thing.

Guess some of us have been on this board for a while, there have been a fair amount of people that posted on here that have passed.

Maybe inappropriate here, but I always wondered if there could be a page with these people on it here and a brief description of them, what they did, just so others could remember them. There's a few I recall but its hard to remember, lot of people been contributors here, would be nice to be able to recall their names correctly so a person could look back at some of the posts.

Sad to hear the news of someone passing, hard to believe the wind doing such a thing, talk about when your number is called.

Sad to hear. A similar incident happened to a cousin of mine some years ago. He was driving through a summer time thunder storm and the wind blew the trailer over on its side. He was lucky though, his tractor stayed on its wheels.
