Between showers we are picking along at a nice relaxing pace.

Cliff is still running the combine and that helps us out alot. Frees up someone to do some odd jobs or help out hauling.

Travis has been here quite a bit helping us keep things rolling. This is his 11th fall with us I believe.

It has been pretty warm. I noticed in this picture you can see some distortion in the distance caused by the heat. Those buildings are right on hwy 116 east of Farmington.

This plane few over a couple times the other day. I didnt catch him the first time but the second time I heard it and baled out of the tractor just in time for him to fly away. Stearman I believe?

So far I have been running the 4440. Its a pretty nice ride for something that is 31 years old.

A neighbor stopped yesterday and said something along the lines of those wagons being a pretty good load for the tractors. I got to thinking and with the wagons loaded I suppose its around 50K lbs being towed. It can be a load.

This is our current farm headquarters. Thanks to modern technology I can run the entire farm from wherever I am working.

I am very happy to report that since the first field of corn that was so bad, things have been much better. We have two fields harvested and started a third. The first made 50bpa, the second 150bpa and the third one is 180bpa. Have been enjoying harvest much more the last couple of days!

Oh yes, the watch dog! Never misses anything, except when he is asleep or you want him to see something. He's been working hard!
Raining again today as we work to wipe out the rainfall deficit. Hope to be back at it in a day or so. In the mean time, we will check cows and get ready to bale stalks.

Always enjoy the pictures. The stalks still look a tad green, what moisture is the corn coming out of the field?

Average probably 22. We were just talking about that. Picked the greenest corn we have ever picked yesterday, it tested 24. Probably something cause of the drought.

Great pictures and good news on the yield. That is indeed a Stearman, nice job catching it before it flew away.

That plane IS a Stearman, in Galesburg this week for the annual Stearman Fly-IN. Probably 60-80 show up from all over the US.
The JD 4440 is an extremly versatile tractor, large enough to get a day"s work done and small enough to "chore" with.
For a hot lunch, get a can of stew or soup, peel the label off, and place it on the exhaust manifold of the 4440. Put it on at 8:00, turn 180* at 10:00, and you will have a nice meal in the field at noon. Don"t forget a can opener and a spoon!

Glad to hear your yields are mostly good. Seeing the wagons reminds me of the first time I ever drove a four wheel drive tractor. The tractor was a loose jointed old 8630 Deere. I was told to hop in the 8630 with the Triggs wagon and go catch the combine to unload on-the-go. The combine was a 2388 doing about 6 MPH. I got the job done without running into the corn head but there were some hair raising driving going on before I got the knack of it. Talk about trial by fire! There should be a lot of time for your bossies to glean those stalks this fall. Jim

Looks like a PT 19 Stearman, I saw one fly an aerobatic routine at Airventure in OshKosh a few years ago, it was so original it had no electric system, they hand propped it to start it. His only communication with the Air Show boss was through a battery powered hand held radio. Those old pilots had big ones and they were made out of brass!

Thank you again, Bill for the pictures. Being a retired Ill. farmer , I enjoy seeing your photos . clint

You have ample good drying weather shelling this early. Put about 3 rings of that wet corn in the bin and put the air to it. Glad your yield came up.

THANKS for the pictures and glad to hear TriTown is helping out!

PS: Have you broken it to Wrigley that we're going to have to wait till next year?
