On 16 Aug I posted on the subject of seatbelts and described an accident I was involved in. One of the posts was one from "seatbelt" obviously someone ashamed of his own handle. Said that 70 MPH on an interstate by 80 years olds was outrageous.

I just want to warn him and others that we will be on interstate 71 from Akron to COlumbus on Sunday 2 bSep 2012 and there will also be my neighbor on the same road Sat 1 Aug and he is 87. BEWARE YA'LL HERE WE COME

I'm with Nancy Howell and SweetFeet on this, Around here most interstate limits are 65 or in some places 70. My gosh, at that speed you can eat up some pavement and still be safe. It seems that many people view the posted speed limit as a challenge.

We drive a lot of secondary roads (which are as good or better than some of the US major highways)... Autobahns have some pretty tall bridges in the areas we drive and SWMBO is afraid of heights (me too but it hasn't bothered me driving yet)..... She's one of them people that can't sit in the passenger seat and keep their mouth shut, so she does most of the driving...... Autobahns have a minimum speed limit and in most places a max (usually by lane). Had someone charged with murder (bad translation but higher than manslaughter) a few years ago because they raced up on a woman that was passing a car, she was driving around 100 mph and this guy zoomed up out of nowhere and started blowing and flashing, she got scared and tried to switch lanes and overshot/got herself under a OTR truck, wiped her and the kids out and the truck driver will never be the same...

dave2,
On I-70 it's 70 mph in most places, some are 65. Most most people drive 75-80 and never get a ticket.

ANYONE, no matter how old, who drives UNDER 70 mph on ANY interstate highway, IS a hazard.

If you are not comfortable with interstate highway speeds, stay off of them.

My personal opinion -

Baloney. The speed limit is just that, a limit. Doesn"t mean you are required to drive that fast. Do you expect people pulling RVs, trailers, etc. to drive 75? People driving under 75 have just as much right to drive the interstate as anyone else.

Speed limit on I-30 just went up to 75. I drive 65. If you don"t like it, that"s what the passing lane is for.

I agree with Nancy. I believe that interstates have a max and min speed posted...have to google it.

At any rate, I also drive about 65. I have a small Geo and if you drive fast it feels like riding on a mosquito. And like a strong wind could blow you off the road.

Even when the speed limit is 70 many large trucks these days are running 65 must be a company requirement and with GPS they're constantly monitered

A lot of it has to do with where the truck gets the best fuel mileage.

I agree.

I'm 77, and routinely drive several hundred miles per day on the job. This obviously requires me to spend many hours on the Interstate and elsewhere at 70-75 mph where legal. And I feel perfectly comfortable doing it.

HOWEVER, I see far more hazardous drivers on two lane roads than on the Interstate. The absolute worst are the ones who poke along 5-10 mph below the speed limit and when you start to pass wake up, look at their speedometer, and speed up while you're passing.

I had the pleasure of one of them today. Idiot was texting and when he got in traffic he would slow down to the point the right lane was passing him. Then speed up to get past it and do 80 to keep everyone from going around. Some fella in a pickup got around him an created a rolling road block next to some slower traffic until he moved over. That dude got pist'd off and started waving his finger at everyone went by.....
