Any instructions on how to get a digital temperature gauge to work on a 12 volt 8N The gauge is inoperative when motor is running as if the ignition system is back feeding into it

Krwkmt.......surprizingly enuff, digital gauges don't like sparkies. And without sparkies, guess what??? Engine NO RUN. And even worse, yer 8N's weaksister ignition needs COPPER-CORE sparkie wires which generates sparkies to kill yer digital meter. While you "might" gitt some sparkie relief iff'n you use modern resistor carbon-core sparkie wires, it is NOT RECOMMENDED. Me? I use a tube operated mechanical temp gauge from Stewart-Warner (print matches other gauges) and the sparkies never bother it. ........mechanical Dell, retired electronics engineer

That's just wrong!

You'll probably need to replace your plugs and/or plug wires with the resistor variety. You can try filtering the input by adding a capacitor between the input and ground as close to the gauge as possible. A second capacitor between the positive and negative power wires is a good idea, too.

How man connectors on the gauge? If it's 3 like mine then one is power from the switch, one is ground and one goes to the sender. Plus you may have a couple for a light in the gauge. Mine is an electric gauge but it is anolog.

If it's hooked up the way it's supposed to be then I would guess interference.

Most likely digital circuitry cannot tolerate the RFI interference from the ignition system.

Are you using TVRS or coopper core spark wires?

Isn't it like any other gauge where you have a 12v power source wire, and a wire coming from the sensor in the water jacket? If it is backlit, maybe a wire connected to dash lights for illumination? Do you have other things connected that shouldn't be? Also, you didn't say if your 12v system is negative or positive ground.
