OT - Double your money! Guaranteed!

I was reading some of the memory lane posts recently, and they reminded
me of some good financial advice I had gotten over the years.
My grandfather always told me:
"The fastest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket."
My dad's favorite was:
"Take care of the pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves."
Anyone else remember such words of wisdom?

My dad had only a seventh-grade education, and he certainly was no economist, but he said something I'll always remember: "If everybody had all the money they wanted, it wouldn't be worth anything." I'm no economist either, but it kinda makes a weird sort of sense. It's the imbalance that makes things work.

They say the first million is the hardest to get, so I gave up on that and started on the second.

Had a Polish neighbor who said all you need to do to get rich is make 10%, buy it for a dollar and sell it for ten and make your 10%.

My dad had a good one for people that worried if the
generator was putting out enough amps to charge the
battery.

He said "take care of the voltage and the amps will take
care of themselves".

When I was a kid......We had a ranching neighbor that was rich, and I asked my Dad how he got all the money. He sold when everyone was buying and bought when everyone was selling. Bought lots of land during WW II. Bought cattle in the fall and sold in the spring. TRUE STORY.

theres one even better,"buy just what you need, and not what you want".in most cases that alone would far more than double our money.my old dad would say ,"if you think you need it ,wait a month and see"!

About the most successful local cattleman put it like this- "Everyone knows the way to make money is to buy low, and sell high- so why doesn't anybody do it? When cattle are high, everybody's in love with them, because they're going even higher. Then when they hit the skids, they suddenly can't stand the sight of 'em, and can't wait to get 'em to the sale barn."

My dad had only a seventh-grade education
Mine too JerryS.
That didn't stop him from retiring as management from Chrysler,
and then again from Electrolux/Gibson's before they shut down here.
He's been gone 12 years now, may he rest in peace.
And yes, what your dad said does make sense!

Any fool can save money it takes a smart fellow to make money.
I'd think this was almost the other way around, specially looking at all
the "stars" that have been rich and ended up broke.
Unless we're talking about the kind of making money where you actually
produce your own bills instead of using the government issued ones! ;)

One my Dad always said to us 4 boys was "if you can't afford to LOSE then you can't afford to GAMBLE! Not a negative way of looking at life , just a reallistic one.
