I am curious to hear about deer damage affecting the harvest this year. We are not seeing the usual impact and I beleive it is because everything has been so hot and dry the deer are staying close to whatever water may still be available. Also could have a big impact on the hunting season - better find a place close to water.
 
I've got deer damage in the corn like you can't believe. I don't know how I can keep this up unless the DNR starts to reiburse me. It's bad,that's the only word for it.
 
Just got my deer damage permits for three farms today. Seven pages of regulations. But there are noilimits on the numbers this year, and doe only. Guess we can get 10 or so off each place.
 
How's that work in your state? Here in MO, only the resident can use them. I think you should be able to let anyone you want use them as long as it is on your own property.
 
Have a pond somewhat near the middle of the 50 acres and have suffered extensive deer damage. Today the building representative showed up to set the stakes and afterwards we went over the view the pond. Coming back he nearly stepped on a fawn that was laying in the medium growth grass. Jumped up about 2-3 ft directly in front of him. Certainly startled both of us. Much better than abruptly coming upon a poisonous snake.
 
Deer damage this year is worse than usual, I think because the corn and soybean plants were not just a source of food but also served as a source for water.
My goal this year for gun season is to shoot at least ten off my property, probably tick off the neighbors but oh well.

They have to do an enormous amount of damage to crops - they are so darn thick.

Here in MN, there are just big herds of them. Husband says when he goes to work in the morning, he often sees a herd in our area that has at least be 40-50 critters. Wish they would let all hunters take several each, for a couple of years and thin them out.

Here in Western, Pa and thru out the state, many guys say there are no deer.
About 2 hrs before dark I can show you 150 or so within 1/2 mile of our place.
The neighbor shot 57 last year and calls them in for the Game Commission to pick up. They are like rats around us anymore.
 
We apply for a permit to DNR, and state who can hunt the property on the permit. They can use any legal weapon and take deer out of season, but must use the animal or give it to someone who can. They must also check the animal, and report it also to the permit holder (me), and I also have to report it to DNR on a log that I have to keep. I have about 3 or 4 permittees on each farm, including me. It's good for anterless only- does or button bucks, and the permittees have to have a license if hunting 'in season', and have to use the leagal weapon during 'in season' periods.
 
I just informed one landlord that I would no longer plant corn on his farm, it would be in a soybean-wheat rotation. The damage to this corn crop caused by the deer and raccoons is absolutely devastating, so much so that I don't know if we will bother running the combine through this field.
