JD 2940 Brake Indicator light

In have a 2940. It has a lever on the lower left side of the seat to engage the parking brake. There is an indicator light on the console that flashes to let you know you left the brake engaged. It operates off a switch at the base of the handle that is just a spring loaded cheap switch. My switch has been damaged and the indicator remains on all the time. I tried twisting the wires to the light together-light stays on. I tried insulating them from each other too. Neither seemed to work to put out the light-light stays on. Will a new switch work or is there a way to deactivate the idiot light permanently?

Isn't there to be a beeper too ? I can't hear it over the engine and in daylight I always seem to try and drive off with the brake on.
I really do like that style of park over the ones with the park gear as they would seem to get bound up and not come out of park.
There's got to be a way to remove the bulb if nothing else maybe ?

Well you can spend $22 to fix the park light switch or about $1000 replacing the park brake band. I hate tractors with a parking brake. They just about all get torn up by someone driving with them on. The old tractors with the brake pedals that locked down usually worked fine as you saw them locked down.
