Question on Kohler K 301

Hello;

I posted to another forum here, so letting you know.

Can a fuel pump from a 16 HP Kohler fit on my K 301 12 HP motor? I am thinking of putting on a larger gas tank and it would be handy.On the 12 HP I see a plate on the side of the block and wondered if it can go there.

Yes it uses the same pump. My 10 and 12hp engines had fuel pumps from the factory.

dont know about each model kohler, but the answer is maybe.if you have a place to get vacumn you probably could make it work.it just depends on whats under that plate.if its drilled into the block then yes,if not youll probably have to drill the block and rig up some way of tapping and putting a hose barb in the cover plate.at least thats what i do on old outboards that used the pressurized fuel tanks when i convert them to a fuel pump system.

The kohlers use a cam activated mechanical fuel pump. The cover plate is used to cover the hole in the block when not using a fuel pump. It should be as simple as removing the plate and installing the pump.

Kohler used to have a pump repair kit(diaphragm) that cost about $8. Last time I replaced mine you had to but the entire pump at about $60.
