I have 7 tractors---Has anyone here taken the road from Calgary up to Jasper-Hinton to road--40--up to Grande Prairie then to Dawson Creek??Making the trip in Mid May--Mid May is a little early in the season. Thanks for any suggestions. |

ok, you talking the Forestry trunk road? or highway 2? or 22? from calgary?. ive taken the Forestry trunk on the may long weekend, its muddy but always passable. was up the hinton-grande cache- grandepraire highway twice this spring, it was just fine. and if you want a more scenic route from GP, go north till the town of Rycroft, then cut west to dawson creek. lived in fairview for the last year going to school, took a few road trips.

Now I am totaly confused. Are the 7 tractors going to Alaska, or is that a YT joke? Where in Alaska? A load of equipment going to central parts should take the eastern roads yeah. There is still flooding, rock slides and landslides all thru the BC mountain roads today, nevermind in May. And some of the 'yellowhead to Yukon' roads are tough going and slow compare to the Alaska highway, kinda 'local traffic only'? To drive a motor home from Edmonton to Prince Rupert and take the inland ferry to Alaskan ports would be nearly dead flat compare to others. Seems that the yellowhead is the flatest route over the continental divide between there and route 10 along the Mexican border. And I love every inch of it.

I am typing this note from our vacation home in Faro Yukon & YES I have driven that road quite a few times. You may find that that road is not open in May & possibly not open in the first part of June. Depending on the amount of snow that they get. You will be traveling thru the ice fields. This is our 14th year up north so if you want some pointers send me a email. Gerald

Thanks Gerald---I sent you an email. Maybe the road east of the mountains would work if the road was closed to Jasper. Route 734 instead of 93
