Old Farmers says Summer will be drier and cooler than normal, on average, despite hot spells in early and late July. If expected rains do not come in June, drought will be an issue. September and October will be cooler and rainier than normal, with snow in late October. Well they got the drought part right, it has been a hot spell since late June. I cannot recall ever having snow as early as Oct here (NW MO) and I have been here since 1985. Now NW Ohio where I grew up is a different story. Only time will tell. [Reply]   [No Email]

Or to put it more plainly nothing more than the authors opinion based on what he and others have noted. like all things human simply an opinion.they have their value,much like a old farmer who has worked the same land for years in a certain area would be more likely to know what to expect than a city boy doing it for the first time. in that way much like this forum. Ive used it,still do to a certain extent. my grandad swore by it,and he successfully lived off his farm for lots of years with no other income. if it helped him or hurt him is a matter of debate ,but taken simply as a guide and not as fact I think most have some value. Turned out nothing like they said it would.....but I was on the good side of it. Yes! Has already rained 5 times this month with 3 of them being over an inch. Beats last year's drought. He swore by the almanac for castrating, planting, weeding etc. I'll be darned if he wasn't dead on right about at least the castration of animals. They always seemed to bleed a LOT LESS on the days that the almanac said would be good for cutting. He always had a nice garden and was a successful farmer, so I think ol Dick had it pretty well figured out. Wish I could have learned more from him. Kippster [Reply]  [No Email]

LIke this year they said "June will be wet...and if not then expect hot and dry conditions. Well duh......guy that wrote that certainly is a rocket scientist.
