OT: Feeding horses drought corn....

I have about three acres of field corn that is really starting to dry up. Some started to tassle, most has not. Can a guy feed this to horses standing as is, or should it be cut and baled. Or should it be fed at all because of the nitrates? Thanks funtwohunt

I would have it tested for nitrates before I would feed it to anything. Really would be cautious about feeding horses.

Where do you get your information???

50/50 corn and oats.

Had kinda the same thing happen a few years ago. The corn got up about 6 feet tall and then it just quit growing an never got any ears. I made one pass down the field per day with my flail chopper blowing the corn into a feeder wagon and fed it to the horses and cows. They did well on it but there again, I didn't feed the whole 3 acres all at once. Animals also had dry hay an pasture with the corn being a snack in the evening. Kippster
