straw per acre???

Neighbor said they'd leave me straw to bale if I take the whole field. Fields are from 2 to 10 acres. Talking about barley and maybe some oats. I know it's a loaded question, but can someone tell me about what to expect for an acre (in 4x5 rounds, or just weight so I can figure close??? I don't need more than a couple hundred small bales so don't want to overdo it. They chop the rest and plow it under......

Thanks...

Dave

Well here in NW SC we bale 40 to 70 small bales per acre depending on the year. This is barley and wheat.
It sells for $3.50 a bale, so is a good sideline.

My friend and I were discussing this a while back. He said he thought the old guys way back used to say 1 bale/acre/bushel for oats. Anyone else ever heard of that? Seams pretty close if I had to guess based on our oats this year. Of course iot would depend on cut height.

I usually get about 35-40 small squares per acre
from oats; a bit less when I did barley. That works
out to about 1/2 bale per bu. per acre on the oats.
Most I've ever gotten was just over 100 bales per
acre, but that was some 6'+ tall rye, and I mowed
and baled the stubble too.
