snow plow with electric winch?

Hey guys, i planning on fabing a front snow plow frame for my massey 50 and thought about using an electric winch to raise and lower the blade. Im going with a 7 foot blade, about 300 lbs.
Can anyone give me some ideas and or pictures?
thanks Mike P

would this work or be overkill

Mike several companies make blades for pickups and other lite 4X4 vehicles that are wench lift. I think if you google it you can find info. A freind had one, 6 foot blade, cable went directly from the wench drum to the A frame without any pully set ups.

there are at least 2 winch type snowplows in my area, these are mounted to older CJ series jeeps, 5 footers, these 2 are in private use, that is, there used for the ranchers own roads, not to make money commercially, they work fine, but are slower operating than the modern hydraulic versions, advice i can offer, is do not skimp on the winch, this will be 'severe service application" buy a good winch, not chinese junk, for a plow, you wont get a year out of a china special in this application if you live in snow country, also your power cable needs to be 0 or 1 gauge to carry the amps, as well as your tractor battery needs to be the largest capacity that you can fit in the tractor, the charging system needs to be in tip top shape too, or you'll run out of battery with frequent cycling of the winch

Have you thought about buying a used snowplow that was made for a pickup truck and adapting it to your tractor?
That way most of the fabricating is already done and you could reverse-engineer it to mount up. I think the Meyers blades would be the easiest to use, and you have electric / hydraulic lift as well as power angle. There were several threads on this forum a while back where guys had done exactly that type of conversion, and they were neat and practical as well.
In our part of the country, Craigslist is loaded with used snowplows that guys bought to make a boatload of money this last winter, and we had no snow at all to plow! Some careful shopping and bargaining might get you a pretty good deal on one.

I have seen a couple 4-wheelers(ATV"s) with a winch -operated snow plow. Also another thought would be to use a cable lift operated by your tractors 3 point hitch like an older Dearborn or ARPS blade set up for Ford N-series tractors.

Mike I put one on my To30 Ferguson which is a little smaller then your 50 but anyway here are some pictures. If you have any more ?'s you can email me.

My brother did that.He put a front blade from a lawntractor on his Honda"Rancher" ATV.Uses a small HF Electric Winch.Works good for 10years and counting....

Here's mine no winch works off internal hydraulics on tractor MF 35. Its a $10 blade off a truck. I think I can find the rest of the pictures and explanation if your interested. You will have to email me.
