What would be average fuel cost per hour on a 1980's??Articulated 8 wheel 7020 John Deere pulling a 20ft disk??
A neighbor just showed up to help at the time for free,,and rejected payment for disking for four hrs.,,BUT NOW he says he spent $400.00 in Diesel in 4 hrs pulling a 20ft disk? NO WAY!!!I say~If that's so,,you need to get rid of that tractor!!!!
It shouldn't be over $125.00 in fuel for 4 hours.???RIGHT???
We gave him $180.00 then after that~TA boot~He came and took our share of hay that he had put up for us on shares~saying he took our 10 bales share also for disking...& that agreement was never struck & was never discussed.
Please help me prove a scammer wrong!!!!
Thanks Jeff

Tractordata says the nebraska test result is 10.2 gallons per hour max drawbar pull. 10x4=40x $4.30 (price where I am) = $172.

I would say you have a thief and a liar. This is also why I am very leery of accepting favors from folks I do not know VERY well.

A JD 7020 would be a 1971-1975 tractor. They where not the best on fuel but not near what he is claiming. If you would tell us how many acres he did I could give you a better estimate of his fuel use.

I think you are just being scammed. I would not have paid him a dime since you did not ask him to disk for you. As for the hay he took. I would tell him to bring it back or you are going to call the sheriff to report it stolen.

He's just opening the door for ya... If you let this go, you'll forever be labeled a chump and every crook will be beatin a path to your door... I wouldn't even mix words at this point. You're out the 180 bucks, but it seems like a fare price but your hay was stolen. Let it go and you'll forever be lettin it go.....

WHY would a person do that???

He has to know that he's NEVER going to set foot on your property again, so he's lost any possibility of ever profiting/benefiting from that relationship ever again...

Pulling a normal 20' disk is a breeze for a 7020. A heavy plowing disk would be another story. If 10 GPH is the max it used at Nebraska, it shouldn't use more than 6-7 for this job. Jim

That would be around 30 gallons an hour. A gallon every 2 minutes? At 15 horsepower hours per gallon it would have to be putting out 450 horsepower continously. No way. Joe

He's asking for $100/hour for operating his equipment. It's way too much for just the fuel of course, but that's the going rate for dozer/excavator work in my area (maybe it's even $120/hour these days), but is pretty darn high for custom ag work. On the other hand, it ain't really fair to pay him just for the fuel and expect him to donate his time and equipment costs.

You say he did tillage and put up your hay on shares, did he also do the seeding or some other work for you since then?

Of course it's way over what the cost of fuel was, but I'm not sure it's fair to expect him to donate his time and equipment costs either.

There's always two sides to every story.
