Tanning hog hide

I have a fairly small piece of hog skin I would like to tan. I have done a goat hide years ago with Borax and Neat"s foot oil, but I am not sure that would hold up this time. I have this idea about wrapping the hide around my boat oar where it rides in the sculling knotch.

When I was a kid I used rubber cement to glue a rabbit hide to a board. One month later I removed it and it perfect very soft and tanned perfect. Works great on small hides.
