Whats wrong with my corn?

Not sure if the pics are going to work. Never had this happen before, all the other fields are fine.

Maybe Pithium (sp)???

But Pithium usually breaks at the ground and discolors before breaking over.

Have you been cool and wet?

Its been cool and wet for a few days. This is the only field that is doing this. I've been spreading manure pretty heavy in this field for a while, but there is one spot that I didn't put any. The spot that I didn't put any, the corn looks fine. Could it be too much of something?

Sugar cane beetle. Farmers here in SC had a time with it last year. Corn gets a few inches tall and falls over. Pull up a few stalks and see if you can find the damage.
Ruined my first sweet corn patch last year and my syrup cane. Sprayed second sweet corn patch at planting and had no problem. I have noticed a lot of garden corn around here that is dying.
Sprayed 13 acres of field corn and the sweet corn and see no problems this year. Will spray syrup patch in a few days when I plant.

If you feed hay that has been sprayed with weed killer, the manure can carry those chemicals to the ground that you spread it over......

I doubt that any herbicide carry over from manure can cause the problem.

More likely this years herbicide, if it is a herbicide that caused the problem. Herbicide from carry over from last year would not allowed the corn to get that big.

I'm betting it's a bug or fungus.

let us know what you find out.

I could not find the cutworms in mine but I have plenty of damage. Resprayed 95 acres and should have replanted some. Was there any green growth in the field early in the spring? We had early weed pressure that we sprayed down with roundup and 2-4D before using a verticle till machine, but the eggs were already laid and caused lots of problems.

I sold hay to a friend. I sprayed the hay fields with Grazon. His wife and him would go out in their pasture in the spring and fork up the straight manure in 5 gallon buckets and put it on their garden. It affected their garden by killing some of their plants after they had came up and started growing. They did some research on the carryover from the Grazon, and came to the conclusion it was the Grazon carryover. From then on they wanted their hay from meadows I had not sprayed with Grazon. No more problems........

Yep, Grazon was exactly what I was talking about. The documentation that comes with the product warns about the carryover danger.

I have nearly the same problem this year. I use a 24D
glyphosate pre plant the same as always. I side dress the
same as always. At about 10" the corn started to wilt and turn
purple. Very wet spring then very dry. The winter was very
mild. The plants have all the signs of overdose. And with the
mild winter maybe some carryover. Nothing I can do now
except let Mother Nature spank my hands.
