512 started our calving season. The warm dry weather isnt good for the crops but it sure has made calving season easy!

Then off to the races with corn planting.

DSCN6236.jpg

These were the best conditions we have planted into in years. It was a very pleasant spring.

DSCN6262.jpg

I caught a few sprinkles on the windows on day.

DSCN6223.jpg

But the sun returned and we finished planting in still beautiful conditions.

Thought of Allan when I took these. I know he likes cultivating corn.

DSCN6280.jpg

Not much cultivating goes on here anymore. I did see a one nieghobor cultivating this week and that is the first I have seen in a few years.

And of course.....

My buddy wrigley was there every step of the way, although, he slept alot!!

Today, memorial day, I leave you with this picture. Its the little cemetary around the corner from my house. Long unused and mostly forgotten I thought something was missing so I went to town and got a little flag and put in the fence.

Have a great one everybody.

Awesome pics Bill. Looks like you and Wrigley have your hands full. The cemetery needed the flag. Thx for sharing

I'm always intrigued by old cemetaries. Any names you recognize on the stones? I have gone through several old ones in my area, and have been surprised that there are very few family names that are still in the area. I get the feeling that there was a lot of moving around in the pioneer days, especially in areas like ours, that had few legitimate farming opportunities. Lots of single guys, I think, trying to "get rich quick" by filing for a Donation Land Claim, and when that turned out to be too much work to "prove up", they moved on.

Your pictures are never boring. A few guys around here will be cultivating to try to cut down on the volunteer corn in their second year corn. A lot of corn was down last fall and this is the after-affect. Jim

Wrigley better look out sleeping under the clutch pedal. Might be in a bind if there's a need for a sudden stop.

was at the Musuem of Radio & Tec the other day. Is where we have our Ham club mettings was talking about cemetery behind it they were suprized whin I told them that my G-Great grandparents were buried there

I too enjoy looking through old cemetaries.
A couple of them in Aitkin County MN are my favorites. One in Waukenabo tnsp has a monument for Olaf and Lena Swenson - man and wife b1860 d1923 or so.
I've always wondered if they were the original Ole and Lena that inspired all the Swede jokes.
Another one near Wealthwood MN has a lot of names like Festus and Thelma Smith or Rastus (Jack) and Carla Kemp. Wealthwood was an experiment by the Federal government back in the 20s to import a bunch of black families into the area. Starvation country up there though so the community did not thrive. Young folks left for the cities and the old ones died in place. Not much left of the town and no blacks at all.
A few odd names in the old cemetary though as a footnote to another time and place.
Billonthefarm, I'm not trying to hijack your thread here.
I always like your posts and pics.

Bill, enjoyed the pic's as usual. Thanks for your time & sharing with us. You are a good man, and this country needs a hell of lot more men like you !!!!!!!!

Bit of a shame when you see those headstones leaning against a tree. Must be the responsibility of some authority. I note the grass gets cut.
