Vicon CM 240 disc mower

I ran across a Vicon CM240 disc mower that I couldn't afford not to buy. Owner said he paid $900 for it 5 years ago and used it to mow 10 acress of hay each year for first 3 years then it sat outside for the next two years. He said it ran and mowed fine. It doesn't look like the prettiest mower and the canvas will need replaced in a year or so. I havne't mounted it yet but did put all new blades/blade bolts on it today, and greased it. I will mount it tomorrow and check the gearbox oil and bar oil. I will change oils with 80-90wt. Then give it a whirl. Are these good mowers? Anything to watch out for? I basically paid scrap price, so it doesn't owe me much if it doesn't work out...but hopefully with a little TLC I can have a nice hay mower. Thoughts or input? Thanks

I have one. I'm pretty sure it's a 240, but I have to check. It has been a very good mower. I have used it to mow 15 acres of bermuda 3 (or so) times a year for the past few years and more before that. I think mine is an early 90s model. Last year the oil pan cracked after the metal support bar near the tractor broke (it's hard to explain). Anyway, I had to take the oil pan off by removing, literally, 75 bolts. I got the pan welded, put form-a-gasket for the seal, and reinstalled it with loctite on the bolts. The good news is that the gears were in near perfect condition. The bottom line is that I have really enjoyed mine, it is much better than a sickle mower, and it has been very reliable (even though it is extremely hard to work on).

I had a 240 Vicon for years mowed hundreds of acres with it, now have a 2400, both are super good mowers. I would advise you to check the oil in the drive gearbox it only holds a pt. or so but will burn up in minites. Bunch of operators around here and they go out on ME.

Very good mowers, three blades to a head, better cutting job and pull easier, check the gear box and bar before each use. Raise the bar all the way up, and wait several minutes for the oil to drain to the bottom, or you wil get a false reading. On the older ones you have to completly disemble the bar to change spindle bearings. On the newer ones you can remove each spindle by taking out 4 bolts.

Where did you find a repair manual for your mower?
I have the same model and am looking to rebuild it.
Thanks in advance for your help
