If you are not on modern view you post went to the third page pretty quick, so maybe you did not see my reply. Your ford 860 is called a Power Master. All the proof you need is on ebay. Just search for Ford Tractor advertizing, and you will see that they did a lot of advertizing of the '57 Ford Power Master. You could buy one to show to the naysayers.

The term "Power Master" started for the 1957 models which were 801s. In this case, it would be an 861. The 860s of the previous two years had no such markings and other than number designations were not identified by any name such as as Power Master or Work Master.

So Bill, are you saying that it is the power master decal rather than the egg crate grill, larger air filter, larger carb, larger intake tube, larger manifold, different pistons, that make the difference between an XX0 and an XX1? As with everything else no doubt some XX1s were built in the latter part of 1957 in order to have them at the dealers for mid winter, but Ford called all the XX0s for 1957 power masters, but not XX1 Power Masters until the 1958 model year. As I suggested before, just check the advertizing of the time.

860s were never known as Powermasters. In late 1957 Ford introduced an expanded lineup for 1958 and designated them the "01" series. New options such as power steering appeared. This is where the Workmaster and Powermaster names started and included increased power, restyled fenders and paint schemes, egg crate grill on the 801s, etc, etc,. etc.
I believe this happened at serial # 116368.

Bill, I have both a 1957 960 Power Master and a 1961 901 There is a lot of Ford advertising from 1957 promoting the specifically 1957 Ford Power Master. The pictures clearly show 860s and 960s. If there were never 860s known as Power Masters why did Ford advertise the 1957 860 as a Power Master?
