It is a lot of fun but a lot of money changes hands too.
Even worse than restoring tractors.

I hear that. $45,000 for a decent motor and they need freshening every 200 miles or so!

My buddy use to be the track photograhper for I-96 speedway in Lake Odessa, MI. Use to watch the sprint cars, regular dirt track cars and motorcycles quite often. Kinda miss the smell of alcohol motors and cheap track hot dogs. Ahh the life!!!!!!!

There is no form of auto racing as exciting to the spectators as sprint cars. Drven by guys with thier knees pushed up into thier chest and powered by a big block. I remember Sammy Swindell passing Steve Kinser on the inside of turn one at Syracuse 1986. His front tire went under the rail and threw out a big cloud of dirt as he muscled underneath Kinser at well over a hundred throwing it sideways. Yeah Baby!. They come around turn two so hard the left front is flexing right up off the track by a foot and the right rear is just diggin'in . Oh man now you got me wanting to go to the races this weekend for sure. Nothing like it.

mrs 730 and i went to the mopar million at eldora speedway (rossberg ohio) for our HONEYMOON no less.
we used to go to knoxville ia for nationals but that got to be a pia.
the irl interstate racers leauge used to come to lancaster wi but i think they quit that.
i don't know if dirt track sprint cars even get on the speed channel anymore.

Top wing is all aluminum, maybe 25 lbs. Whole car only weighs 1100lbs. When we were racing, we used titanium bolts and half nuts to keep the weight down.

Wheels at full lock, foot on the floor, lookin' out the side "window" to see where you're going....

Nothing like it (except, maybe, super stock drags).

Used to go see the URC run at Delmar, DE. (Delaware International). they always put on a great show. I crewed on a Late Model there back in the '80's. Those were the days. Mouth full of grit, eyes on fire from the Alcohol...wish I could go back.

I used to run 250/350cc bikes on 1/4 and 1/2 oval dirt tracks in the "70"s and one of my fondest memories was going to unsanctioned tracks! You could run whatever fuel you wanted and some of the two cycle guys ran stuff that"d burn yer eyeballs waiting in line in practice. There was a two-cycle oil called Blendzall (sp) that had a distinct scent to it!! Miss those days now, but he!!, I"ll be 56 the next birthday, so I had fun while I could.

I've always enjoyed watching sprint car races. Knoxville Speedway in southern Iowa has great races. My uncle doesn't care for the sprints, but that's probably because he spent close to 20 years racing IMCA modifieds. All dirt track racing is a good show in my eyes.

Well, the track that we were supposed to go to cancelled due to the cold and wind, so we headed to Williams Grove Speedway instead. The All Star Sprints vs the Pa Posse. 47 sprint cars in the pits and about 25 ARDC midgets. The 30 lap sprint car feature was won by a 19 year old high school kid, who is the grandson of the great Bobby Allen. Pa Posse wins again!
