Over run clutch

I had posted a message about My 1969 Massey Ferguson 135 I use for bush hogging . The bush hog getting to low in front and twisting the drive shaft into.A friend of mine told me to try this over run clutch that slides on the PTO shaft . I have read were it helped some tractor from lunging froward.but the problem I have is I can"t get the bush hog up before the Pto shaft twist into . The ground being unlevel. I have a Two stage clutch so I am not sure the over run clutch will help any.I have all so read about the limiter chains. I don"t want to waste money on the over run clutch if it won"t help. Any suggestions?

An ORC is not needed with your set up and will not solve your issue.

You need a properly operating and adjusted slip clutch or a proper grade 2 shear bolt.

You may also wish to install limiter chains to limit the minimum cutting height of your mower.

And did you check your pto shaft for free movement and loosen or remove you top link and use a chain like I said in the Massey forum yesterday? Is the pto shaft maybe too long for the job? The angles of the hills you are mowing might have to be approached from a different direction too.

You mean the PTO shaft is twisting in TWO, right?

"Who cares about spelling and punctuation as long as the message gets across" only works WHEN THE MESSAGE GETS ACROSS. I am having a hard time understanding your problem...

Why is the bush hog getting "too low in front?" Fix the reason for that and you will stop breaking the PTO shaft.

An overrun clutch will not help you that situation.

The advice you got on the Massey board will.

The Ground is uneven high and low spot causing the front of the bush hog to be to low. I think also the lift lets down a little when the grass is tall and the idle drops,It an old tractor . Maybe the top link is not adjusted right . This is the first tractor I have owned or drove for that matter. Any suggestion are appreciated.

Use a chain instead of the turn buckle for the top link? I heard that was a bad thing to do. Although I will check the Pto shaft for play and try watch which way I am mowing . Thanks for the suggestions.

Top link adjust should be so mower is approximately level at mowing height.

If the tractor is letting the mower drop as you go along so badly that you are breaking PTO shafts you really need to fix that. Leaky valve or cylinder.

Top link adjust should be so mower is approximately level at mowing height. Not sure what this means .If I put a 4 foot level what should it read front to rear on level ground that is .

The level won't tell you squat. Use a ruler, and have the front measure the same, or a little bit lower (maybe an inch or so) than the rear. If it's higher than the rear, you're cutting it coming and going.

Your cutter should have some sort of protection on the shaft, that's probably there but isn't working. Either a frozen slip clutch, or too hard of a shear bolt. If you could post a picture of the set up, and the PTO shaft (both ends would be nice) it would help us help you much better.
