tractor purchase

Which tractor (small to medium) and attacments will work best for a new venture our son and family are going to begin on the family farm. They will be planting Apple and possibly other trees, then berries later.
We have considered the merits of three point, pto, plastic vs metal fenders ect. Some do not offer rear HYD. ( ie JD 3038E)
Care to weigh in with advise before purchase's are made?
By way, we do not have a tractor that would work in this situation so a new or slightly used is needed.

What will be the specific duties that the tractor will perform? Mowing, ploughing, planting, etc.. How much space do you have? Do you need a loader? Hate to answer your question with more questions but the more you narrow this down the easier it is to find the answer.

I doubt there will be more than 20 acres of orchard and berries. At least not untill I give it up. For now its more like 5 to start. A loader will be needed as well as mower, disc, tiller, and he seems to think a box scraper although I dont know what for. I'm sure he will think of something else, (he is talking about a corn planter for sweet corn)? I think the rear hyd. should be included. No plow.

Bob what HP range? I guess you are looking at compact utilities and if so I'd look at JD and Kubota and maybe NH depending on dealers in the Bemidgi area. If you are looking at slightly larger utilities then JD, Kubota CNH and maybe Massey. Sounds like an older Ford in the 3000 or 4000 models would work too.

May have to take a drive up your way this year......haven't been through there sense the 80's.

Come on up, bring a firearm or two and and your tanks, I got one of thse cameras to put down, I'll use it and you do the diving. Maybe we can find the walleye. lol
It will be his decision but he seen an add of JD and found they have "package deals) and 0% financing for a while, not sure how long. 30 to 40 horse should do him but I thought I would see what folks on here recommend.

Have no idea what they are like or how priced, but look at the case quantum V or N ... Just saw one at our local dealer and it's pretty slick.
The V is for vineyards and 40 inches wide and the N is not as tall for orchards and 48 inches wide. 4wd and start at 65 HP. Seems overkill for such a small tractor, but they look neat......
AND THEY ARE [b:5d50710250]RED[/size:5d50710250][/color:5d50710250][/b:5d50710250]

Hi Dave2; Thanks, I was just looking at those on the net, dont know how he would feel about it but he does run the old rusty and red WD on occasion. I was just looking at the Bobcat series to, know anyone that has them?

Bob while Bobcat has a great reputation for the skid steers I don't know anyone with the CUTs. They are made in Korea to Bobcat spefications. There are no compact utilities tractors made in the US.

Firearms???? You mean I can't bring em all? Only one or 2????LOLOL :D

No,
My immediatearea doesn't have grapes to speak of and the ones we go by usually are so steep a tractor isn't practical unless it short, narrow, and long. Orchards in the area are small and just pruned high enough to let a normal decent size tractor thru.... Just saw the little one at the local dealer and it'll prolly collect dust.....
