I have a TORO lawn tractor after it has been running for about an hour or so it will die or idle down on its own,if I stop and idle it down by hand and idle it back up it will run for for a while and do the same thing. if you turn it off it will start and die start and die.
I have had the carb cleaned and rebuilt. This motor has a solinoid on the bottom of the the carb and a vacume fuil pump, I have tested the
solinoid and it seams to be working right.
what could be the problem.
MANY THANKS AND HAVE A GRERAT DAY

classic running out of fuel symtoms, several things to check, first the fuel cap itself, it should be vented, when the mower engine stops, quickly remove the fuel cap, if you hear a sucking sound the cap vent is plugged, the pump is creating a vacuum in the tank untill it can no longer overcome it , if thats not it, there has to be a filter or screen in the line someplace, some are on the very end of the fuel line in the tank, a little disc looking thing, some are in the fuel line itself, and some have a screen in the top of the carb, even though the carb is overhauled, if you got a bad load of gas, and have trash in the tank, you still have a flow problem, , see if these items find you anything

Things to check in order:

1. Fuel cap vent plugged.

2. Fuel filter (if equipped) needs to be replaced or cleaned (blown out) at the least.

3. Trash in the tank floating around and settling over outlet hole.

4. Rubber fuel line hose collapsing, or inside of hose deteriorated inside restricting fuel. This can happen if the hose is close to heat, or your burning corn.

In other words your running out of fuel, so look for something simple!

I would look for a fuel filter. My old Wards tractor has a filter. Disconnect the gas line at the carb and hold a clean container to catch the gas. Should see a full flow of gas from the tank. Hal
PS: Check for fire to your plug when it quits. You need to do this asap before the engine cools.

My neighbor had a 17HP briggs in a 52” rider that would do that. Run fine one minute, stumble and die, run fine and start all over. He had it in the shop three or four times and they could never get it fixed. He was ready to burn it to the ground and went and bought a new one. It was a good solid mower and only a few years old. So I bought it for a song thing figuring worst case I would put a spare motor in it.

Turned out the only thing wrong with it was the little plastic part on the end of the solenoid was loose. It would pop up and intermittently shut off gas to the carb. Does your solenoid have a plastic tip? Is it loose? The purpose of it is to shut off the gas so a leaking float valve does not fill the engine with gas. In my case I opted for a $3 manual on/off vale in the fuel line vs. a $58 solenoid. I replaced the solenoid with a bolt from an older carb.

try back blowing the tank some do have a little screen and sometimes looking at then wont show the restrictions. even looking at them using a good light looks good but can be plugged with a a cellophane varnish you can't see.
Also check the throttle shaft for ware.
