Humming Voltage Regulator

The voltage regulator on my 135 humns periodically and it never seemed to do that before. I replaced it in February and all I know is its humming but I can't name the tune.

In all seriousness what would cause that?

There is probably nothing wrong with it. Some are just louder than others.

The field current is controlled by a set of points opening and closing very rapidly. That is what creates the hum or buzz. Usually the noise they make is quiet enough that you do not hear it over all the other noise coming from the engine.
