This has been sitting in my shed for 12 years. Time has come to either fix it or scrap it. It was locked up when I got it with moisture in the cylinders but ran before sitting outside under a tarp for several years. Are parts still available and does anyone know how old it is. I would really like to repair it as it runs at 1800 rpm. Thanks for your help. DH

I have a 1981 Onan 23 horse engine in a skid steer. I'm replacing an exhaust valve, spring, seat and keeper. Several online small engine suppliers had the valve, spring and keeper; but the seat was found on eBay.

Made in April 1970. Very good unit to restore. Parts are out there. One of Onans best units thousands of them were made. Lot of people looking for them. Yours is a special order unit at 120/240. Most are 18R units which means you can get 120-480 out of them.One of the last StudeBaker units made.
 
I would have thought 120/240 was standard and 120/480 would be the special order/odd output voltage. What would you power with 480 single phase other than lighting at 277V ?
 
Chris, the way they arrive at 277 volts single phase as used for industrial lighting would be for the service to be 480 Y 277 Volt Three Phase Four Wire. That service has three legs of single phase 277 volt plus 480 volt three phase, but the genny shown is only SINGLE PHASE three wire it appears. I specified it many times over the years at our facility where appropriate. 277 X the square root of 3 (1.732) is 480 in the three phase four wire Y configuration.

Sorry Chris. Should have said 18R units have a range from 120 to 480. You can rewire them for any voltage and phase you need.
