Wow I was impressed!

My friend got a 2012 chevy 2500 hd. The whole running gear isent gm, it's izuzu duramax, Dana axles bendex breakes and Allison tranny. He said it was 400 hp and 750 ft pounds torque. He took me for a ride I couldent believe how it got up and went. It also has a engine break, or Jake break and has some kind of exhaust fluid, he said it uses 5 gallons to 5000 miles. It even had 2 alternators on it. Alot different from my ford 7.3! Lol

The new Ford and Dodge Diesels are really upsized now also. I do think the Allison is the best of the transmissions, but at least my Ford has a clone in it now.

(reply to post at 15:43:10 04/08/12)

Chevy HD's Duramax diesel develops 397 horsepower and 765 lb-ft of torque (that's more horsepower but less torque than the Ram HD, and less horsepower and torque than the Ford PowerStroke diesel)

I own a diesel Ram and I'm impressed with the Duramax the Dodge has more torque but the Chevy will out pull it . the Magazines done the trailer pulls and Dodge came in 3rd again but I still like the straight 6 .

Ya me too, I have the v8 7.3, but years ago my friend had the straight 6 cummins and it ran great, he got alot of miles outta that truck.

That "exhaust fluid" can turn expensive from what I have heard. Sure others can fill in the details.

Chevrolet and GMC light trucks, HD or othrwise, are not made or designed by Isuzu.

The diesel engine is GM designed and built by a GM/Isuzu joint venture.

As with all cars and trucks, many components are designed and built by suppliers.

He dosent care how much it is. The construction company he works part time for gave him the truck, fuel card and iPhone ect. I think he said the truck was $58,000

It is not GM designed. It was designed by Isuzu engineers while the 1998 DMAX joint venture was partly owned by GM. GM gave Isuzu techs input about what they wanted and the Isuzu techs designed the first Duramax.

1998 DMAX joint venture made engines at Morraine, Ohio. Same place the 6.2 diesel was made in 1982.
By year 2000, GM owned 49 % of the DMAX company.

In 2002 – GM ownership dropped to 12% GM then bought full control of the Duramax used in GM full-size trucks.

Well, the M1-A1 turbo tank that is the US Army's tank of choice is said to be running the same Allison tranny that you find in GM trucks. Okaye.

Driven one since the Feds took them over? Try it you may like it. I did after about 25 years away from the badge.....traded in my Dodges.

Just the sales tax on that truck is more then I've ever paid for any car/truck in my life. If financed and with tax it's probably a $60,000 truck. To impress me - it would have to be capable of space-travel.

I'll stick to my Ford-IH IDI turbo 7.3, my many 6.2 GMs and my Dodge-Cummins 5.9. $3300 was the most I've ever paid for any of them.

That's the way these compines are today, I think they have a back log of 40 million or something like that he said, money owed to them for jobs they have done. They have a payroll of $300,000 a week, for 150 employees., so I don't think they care about a $60,000 truck, like me or u bying a pack of gum to them. Lol

Wow thanks for enlightening me, for a minute there I thaught it was made by Honda! Wtf

(quoted from post at 18:51:21 04/08/12) your furd is an International Engine
D, you need to catch up with the times......IH & Ford split the sheets big time. Ford diesel is all Ford now a days & has absolutely no kinship with the old Ford IH engines that had some many problems in their later incarnations.

Yep, it's a ford motor. My friend wanted a f250 with the new
diesel, but he said these guys are diehard chevy guys, so
they gave him the chevy. What is the modular block ford has?
And do they use twin turbos? I haven't looked at the new
ones.

Looks to me that the poster (JDdriver) was referring to JayinNY's 7.3 diesel. That was indeed an IH - "Navigating the Stars" engine. Not designed by Ford as the new ones are now.

Jayin NY stated “Alot different from my ford 7.3 “

JDdriver then stated “your furd is an International Engine”

He was correct

I know mine is a international NAVSTAR engine, I was just pointing out how much different the new engines are from my 2000 7.3 , wether it be new fords or these duramax engines. Just more technology that's all I was trying to say.

Had a 3500 Dually in the dealership the other day. Problem with the trailer brakes. never could duplicate it. Turns out the Chev was actually owned by a local Dodge dealer who said he used it for pulling his livestock and it out peformed his dodges. Go figure.

That is 1 gallon U.S. every 1000 miles. I'm also impressed. was it all down hill freewheeling or is there more to the story.??
break,, to split asunder.
...Brake,, to stop this machine. mostly used while going downhill so as you don't exceed the lawful speed until you reach the speed camera at the bottom.

What is idi turbo? Mine is a direct injection turbo, is yours an older indirect injection or something.?

Well,The Allison 1000 trans used in the Chevy 2500 hd. weighs in at 330 lbs. The Allison X-1100-3B trans used in the M1A1 Abrams tank weighs in at 1960 lbs.

We have a few new GMC and Chevy's at work. They are fast and they tow alright. Not a one of them are worth what they cost even with the company discount. I'll keep my old dodges though. My father has an 07 Dodge with the 6 speed dodge auto. Its just like an allison. None of them no matter what brand are worth what they cost.

Hehe. I did a double take too :)

He meant the "exhaust fluid" (urea injection for emissions). Urea tank is supposed to be refilled at every oil change (or there about).
