frt tires??

Hey folks,
I have 6x16 (6PR) tires on my tractor. With the loader and a round bale hanging on it (heaviest that will ever be on it), they look OK. There are 8 and 10PR available. I don't really wanna give up the bucks for 10PR, but there is a deal on 2 8PR with tubes. Think that is enough? Maybe make them a little tougher for thorns also?

Thanks, Dave

I run 8 ply 7.50x16 on my loader tractor, and handle
300-400 high moisture round bales per year, and at
least that many 5x5 and/or 5x6 dry rounds per year.
The 8 ply usually last 3-4 years. Can't seem to find
10 or 12 ply around here. If you can get a deal on
the heavier tires, I'd go for it. I don't see 6 ply
lasting long.

Dave...If you can find some steel belted radial tires you'll have a lot more thorn resistance. I run used truck tires...steel belted radials...on my 4610 Ford w/loader....215/85x16LT 8pr. I run them tubless...inflate to max. pressure as printed on sidewall of tire or maybe 5 lbs more. You'll be OK with that considering the speed is NOT highway speed.

Hope this helps...

Rick

For the price of one more tire, you can/might be able to have the set you own now filled with solid rubber. This isn't the foam leak stop, but a liquid pumped in, air comes out a nail hole the put in the opposite side, and dries solid- and that should last you quite a while. I had 2 pairs done so far. And when you need extra weight up front, it is already there...

i agree with everybody else on using truck tires...as much time as you spend on pavement it makes more sense than softer tractor tires.

dave2, I have been running Airplane tires on the front of my 966 since 6 month after I bought it back in 1992 My first set went + - 14 yrs the last two yrs on that set were Iffy. My new set is about 4 yrs old and look like I will get at least that on them.
A 20 ply tire is designed for the wt of an Airplane and the 200 MPH speed as it lands.
The tire I have on the front of My 966 are Nose wheels on a Boeing 727 jet!
If your wheels are good!, order a set of late mfd date carcass, new recap tires and get a local heavy truck tire company change them out for you. I have never been sorry for buying mine!
Get the newer carcass date tires!!, For a cousin of mine opted for a cheaper pair of recaps from the same company, /they did well for a while but dry rot caused one to fail. At 50 lbs Mine do not squat, For any round bale of any wt, wet calachie road base! Period!!!
Hope this helps!

John A.
My first set had 2 flats in the time I had them and this set has had 1 so far, actually a pinched tube. NO thorns get in!
