He hopped on it and stuck it in 3rd and hung the shifter up in the slot above reverse ,,YOU WD Allis Guys know where i mean ,No one was able to pop it back out.Since the shifter was hung up .they shot me a low ball of
$1600, I told them the hay trade was worth more than $1800 and i was gonna try to get it out of gear . So. I went to grab a 5/8 socket and ratchet to pull up the cover ,I Came back from tool shed with tools and big screwdriver , ready to operate ,. The Guy says "well , Before you do that ,, Would You take $1750.?"..."Yes . i got plenty to get done around here ", and you just as well take the Allis with You , and i will be close to even ",,After they left , Now I Am Wonderin ?,, TO YOU WD Allis fellas out there ,, Is there a Quirk on the shifting of these WD That a guy can Hang up the shifter and throw a sale ?

Not to my knowledge and I've been playing with them since the 50S. Only if the shifter is worn will they do that. In my opinion, you got a pretty good price for a WD though. $1650.00 for a good running WD with worn shifter is a very good price. HTH

The tips of the shifters will often wear away causing what you have described. You can simply pull the shifter out and rebuild the end or replace it with one that isn't worn so much.

I have had things for sale and taking things in trade and almost all ways lose as a result, chances are the guy was going to beat you down one way or another, if it was more than bad luck it hung up at that time and was done on purpose he get it back 10 fold, chalk it up Hay for sale cash!

I agree Bob, around here, Southern Ohio, that would be a $850 tractor since it had shifing problems, maybe $1000, depending on the loader, without shifting problems, he got lucky selling it.

I remember reading about a shyster trick in the old "Gus and the Model Garage" stories that involved lifting the shift lever out of the fork on old Fords. Not to say that the story was factual, or that your buyer would stoop that low, or that it can even be done on a WD transmission.

Bottom line - the tractor was for sale, and it's gone, and you should be glad.

Exactly dej(Jed), No need to pull the cover off the tranny, just pull the snap ring and lift the shifter right out.
It may be possible (with a really worn shifter) to pull it up enuf to intentionaly get it to jump out of the slot and lock up.
I never tried that; when they get worn, they do it by themselves....and......usually at the most inopportune times!! LOL
