I'm going to try and help a neighbor fix his 4010 that will turn to the left, but not to the right. He said there is slug in the hyl fluid. It stopped working while he was picking up hay that I sold him. Does any one have exploded drawing of what I need to take a part. Rent or use a repair manual would be nice. Any advise will help. My E-mail is open. tks

Steering box under council has a plate in center that cracks sometimes? Very precise setting needed to properly set when assembling. May want to chat with J D mechanic first?

john deere mechanic here if you have never had one a part the steering valve is tricky. it is hard to get set if you have had 30 a part. also their is a chance it could be in the steering motor above the front axle. the tect manual will tell you how to check it. does it have a loader on it?

Here's schematic of the valve. I agree you'll need a copy of the JD tech manual.

Tks everyone, and tks Tx Jim you always come through. That newer stuff is not like working on the good old tractors. I had posted some time ago about an injecter pump leaking. Hauled it to a dealer. Fixed for $800.

TX Jim: How do you get the parts diagrams to post on here??? I can get them to copy to my computer from JD Parts but then they will not up load to here.

If it has a loader i would put money on the steering motor.Seen more oring bad in the motor than valve being bad myself. Have taken a few of them apart over the last 17 years of being a John Deere mechanic.

I asked several times how to post photo's on here. Finally my 10 yr old Granddaughter showed me how. You save a photo from JD's website which will be gif image, then open photo and go up to LH corner and click on file, then scroll down to "save as" and change image to "jpeg". I only use Modern view so I can only tell you how to continue on Modern. Go below your text to "Advanced Posting Tools" then to "Upload Photo" HTH's,Jim

PS: I think the parts schematic photo's I post are just like the old saying "a picture is worth a 1000 words"

TX Jim your posting are great and a big help. thank you for the ones that you have sent in the past. I'm going to try and find the JD websit, and other equipment if they have them. I have been a farmer my whole life (68 years old) and just now have a heated work shop; With 9 tractor and some pickups and trucks to work on. IT IS TIME. tks

(quoted from post at 09:40:34 02/26/12) will this process work from a page in a PDF file ?

I can't answer your question. I've tried to post pdf schematics to no avail. I'll have to get my Granddaughter to show me how. I'm a computer DUMMY

All JD equipment should be listed at JDparts.com. Some things on the JD site are hard to navigate. I worked for a JD dealer for over 21 yrs so I'm more familiar than some on JD's parts system. If you ever need help on JD's website feel free to give me a shout. Researching & providing "correct JD information" helps keep my old gray matter(brain) working(I hope).
