looking at a '91 F450 with a 460 and 5 speed manual...tranny is real noisy and clanks pretty bad...i've got a '93 F250 with i think the same 5 speed...do any of yall know if it will interchange...seems to me the bell housing is removeable but i cant remember...been almost 25 years since i left dealerships and didnt work on any trucks to speak of except head gaskets on 6.9's

Heck I would look things over REAL close to be sure there are not loose of busted bolts. I've had people tell me they need to have a new transmission due to the noises. I've gotten under cars and truck (especially trucks) and found all the bellhousing bolts loose and some of them broken.
This was a real big problem in the late 70s and early 80s GM trucks, and I believe Ford had a similar problems. Check the obvious things first.

If they both have 460's there shouldn't be a problem, I've gone from a 5 speed to a 4 speed on about the same models without any problems other than having to extend the drive shaft couple inches for the four speed. Plus they were both F350's but that shouldn't make a difference. I've even put a 4 speed behind a 460 while Ford was only using automatics behind them because Ford didn't think they had a transmission that would stand up behind a 460. I used a 390 FE flywheel(Yes the FE flywheel will fit the older 460's) and a 429 bellhousing that had what I needed for the clutch.. I had no problems with it either.
