Another case of "why bother" buying US made...

about a year ago, was asking about bib overalls... Folks pointed me to I believe roundhouse...

Went to the website someone gave me and they wouldn't ship to me. Went on amazon and found them. Ordered them for 40+ bucks plus shipping... Got them and had a tag made in Mexico....

FF to yesterday, wife was out and came home with a set of denim bibs that she had paid 12 bucks for at the Aldi store... Gotta be bettern' sweatpants so I tried them on, fit just as good and the material felt just as good as my roundhouse. Tag inside says made in mexico.

few thousand miles away, 19% sales tax, and still got a mexican product 30+ bucks cheaper than trying to buy American.....

Maybe I got counterfiet roundhouse from amazon (????) cause I thought they were supposed to be US made...

Done now...

i too find its hard to buy american unless i either buy something old, which is made in america or make it myself, i was wondering the other day, what about canadian made products? does canada outsource their stuff or still make it in country, example the companys western star truck, [ 6964F] made in canada and it is a very high quality rig i enjoy when i get it to drive , usually drive the peterbilt, which is older and is american made both are good trucks, new pickups with 90% overseas componets? i'll keep my 80 model and 83 too lol

Got a Fiskars (German made) shovel last week. Amazon ad said made in germany, Not in any german stores I looked in so I emailed fiskars to be told that that shovel was not available in germany (ad says made in germany). Order off amazon, have it mailed to me, open it up and right next to "world's best shovel" is a sticker that says "made in china"

You get some surprises sometimes. I had an electrical short in my diesel gator and it burned up a control box that senses temperature and operates the glow plugs. Original was made in Germany and the new part from Deere was made in the USA!

Another thing that gets me... Bosch sparkplugs are made in germany... it's cheaper to order them from rockauto or discount auto and pay the postage to get them here. Bought my stihl chainsaw in the States and had my buddy mail it to me for less than half what it costs here. Bosch starter in a ford pickup I had was gonna cost me 400 bucks at the local ford dealer, all parts for it made right here in the town 5 miles from where I live. Got a rebuilt from rockauto for 67 bucks.... Almost like countries are encouraging thier folks to give someone else thier business.

Only import I can remember being more expensive is champion sparkplugs that cost about 4 times the bosch crossreference...

Go figure

I wear bib overalls and for many years we wore OshKosh made in Wisconsin. When Osh Kosh stopped making bibs I went to Key. I have several pair and here is what I have noticed:
They have different places of manufacture. I check the labels. Some are made in Mexico with US components. Others China or India.
Those made in India are pure crap. They do not fit the same. I wear a 44x30. Same pants from China and Mexico fit fine but those from India fit small and the quality is very poor.
Those in Mexico fit the best and at least they are using some componets from the US. Those made in China seem to be OK and last as long as the others.
I do prefer to buy US clothes but it is getting tougher to find them...same with shoes.

My stihl 034 was made in USA, but my ms460 says made in
Germany on it! I use to work for a Stihl dealer so he gave me
the ms460 for cost, back in 05 I think I got it. I wouldn't want
to buy one now, I think there over $1000!

I write to the company before I buy something that I question. Many companies are starting to put USA made on their site for everyone to see. But some don"t. I was looking at a Curt 5th wheel hitches, the website says most stuff made in the States (which means write to them). Come to find out, their 16k hitches are made overseas.

Bottom freezer fridges, I wrote to kitchen Aid, Magtag, GE and Whirlpool. I know Kitchen Aid and Maytag are owned by Whirlpool, but you must ALWAYS ask.

AC and Champion spark plugs are now made in Mexico. I"ve been buying a lifetime supply of US made DJ8J and the like plugs on e-bat. The catch is you must ask before bidding.

Ask before buying is a must!

High local European prices compared to "import" often means the local VAT is not charged on exports- and reimport as personal item or sent by friend doesn"t get charged VAT at reimport unless marked as to be resold locally. What is your local domestic VAT? Canadian posters note they have 17% on lot of stuff but if the product is shipped to US a short trip across border could save them a little. BMW rally had Canadians coming in riding bare shafties, stop at local dealer for Vetter, etc bits and pieces so they rode back with full dress rigs. The import and VAT at the time meant they saved 50% compared to Canadian purchase. Cross border at different crossing than what they entered so customs didn"t note difference in equipment. Some BMWs picked up in Germany were equiped for US market, but local purchase with a note for export meant no VAT. Ride 1000 miles and ship to US as "used" personal vehicle, not for resale and import avoid tax that way. Military had other help on imports besides. Japanese bikers wanting big cycles not normally sold in Japan would use a Okinawa dealer for purchase of "export" model available there- export market to US military legal, and then register local Okinawa-- which meant when brought back to main islands the local registration accepted so can run a 1000cc instead of normally legal allowed 750cc, a "grandfathered" legal registration. Tax laws can have interesting results. RN

I have no problem with Mexican made products.
It keeps Mexicans employed in their own country.
Mexicans ARE Americans...North Americans!
